Maureen Ann Kleiman was born on December 13, 1946 and passed away on December 3, 2025. She was born and raised in Monticello, NY, the only child of Martin and Edna O’Connor.
From an early age, Maureen had a kind heart for animals and a passion for teaching that followed her throughout her life. She began her career in NY as a Special Education teacher. When her daughter was born, she took time away from teaching and became involved in horse rescue, founding an adoption program for Standardbred ex-racehorses. Upon moving to Virginia and then Florida, she returned to teaching, specializing in at-risk student programs. She also spent several years as a successful real estate broker. In her spare time, she continued rescuing and rehabilitating the most difficult-to-place animals.
Maureen will be remembered as an independent thinker who was fearless and resilient. She was clever, smart, and a master at negotiating, researching and problem-solving. She was an advocate for those who needed her most, and she loved being a mother and grandmother.
Throughout her complex illnesses, she never gave up, and she continued to educate herself on the most effective treatments. She had such a will to live. She would have wanted for any reading this to feel empowered to take control of their own healthcare journeys, to empathize with and to help others in challenging circumstances, and to speak up for those not able to speak up for themselves.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years Kenneth (Kenny) Kleiman who was always by her side supporting her, her daughter Karissa Kleiman Burton, and her granddaughter Savannah Burton. She was loved and will be missed.
Crevasse’s Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Kleiman family.

What a beautifully written tribute to your mom/grandma. I’m so sorry for your loss. I remember her as a fiery, smart, and strong woman, very passionate about horses. I know she will be missed and remembered with love. Thinking of you guys at this time.
