David Loveland

December 31, 2025

David Michel Loveland, 64, of Newberry, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2025. A beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Dave’s passing has left a deep void in the hearts of all who loved him. He will be remembered for his personal and professional integrity, his deep concern for others, and for being the anchor to the extended family.

Born on May 27, 1961, in Evreux, France, Dave was the eldest son of a military family. He graduated from Fort Walton Beach High School as the Senior Class President. He then went on to Florida State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs and a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning. Dave had a lengthy career with the Lee County (FL) government, rising to the notable positions of Director of the Department of Transportation and Director of Community Development. His commitment to making communities safer, more functional, and more sustainable left a far-reaching legacy for Florida’s southwest region.

Dave was an unassuming but powerful force of goodness within his family, his community, and among his many friends. His legacy of quiet leadership lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know and love him, and his passion for building a better world could not help but make others around him better.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Toni and their son Zach, who was the pride of his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert, Patrick and Mark.

Please contact the United Methodist Church for details of Memorial Service and Reception.

Friends and colleagues are invited to attend and share stories that reflect on the life and legacy of a man who always gave more than he asked in return.

  3. I’ve known Dave forever it seems. Good friends with Rob. We were neighbors at FSU. So many memories – FWB, FSU, Rick’s Oyster Bar, softball, visits in Ft. Myers, football game at Paul’s. Dave is in a lot of my good memories. I’m going to miss you man. Loved you like a brother. I am privileged to have had you in my life. My heart goes out to Toni and Zach. May they cherish him in their memories. RIP Dave. Gone too soon.
