Thinking of you all.
Carol Chinman Shedlin, 85, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away surrounded by her family on February 1, 2026.
Carol was born May 12, 1940, in New York and lived in Woodmere on Long Island (Five Towns) until 1975. A pointe ballerina in her youth, she attended Lawrence High School, where she was captain of the cheerleading team. She earned a degree in elementary education from The Eliot-Pearson Children’s School at Tufts University and went on to become an elementary school teacher. Carol volunteered for the United Way and served on the committee for the United Way’s Red Feather Ball.
In addition to raising three children, Carol had many creative passions, including painting needlepoint canvases, knitting, and doll making and collecting. Her artwork was displayed and sold in her hometown and the Cummer Gallery. Before moving to Florida, she worked as an interior decorator on Long Island.
One of Carol’s favorite hobbies was playing tennis at Big Tree Racquet Club and Epping Forest. In the early 1980s, Carol owned and operated the Jacksonville and Orange Park Cabbage Patches, adopting Xavier Roberts’ Little People, which became known today as the Cabbage Patch Kids. In the late 1980s, she began breeding and showing champion Shih Tzus, producing multiple champions, including dogs shown at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. One of her favorite things to do was spend time at her beach club at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club.
Above all, Carol was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family deeply.
Carol is predeceased by her husband, William Shedlin; her mother, Riki Virginia Chinman; her father, Julius Chinman; and her brother, Joel Chinman.
