George "Marion" Hope Sr.

George “Marion” Hope, son of George Marion Hope, Sr. (1904-1945) and Jessie Candler Norman (1912-1994) was born on January 24, 1938, in Waycross, Ware County, GA and died on February 10, 2026 in Gainesville, FL.
Marion graduated from Bryan County High School in Pembroke GA, Mercer University in Macon GA, and University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Following completion of a post-doctoral fellowship in Ophthalmology at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, he held positions in the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Louisville in Louisville, KY and the Ophthalmology Department, University of Florida before retiring in 2005.
He is survived by wife, Dorothy “Dot” Hendrix Hope, son Stephen Richard Hope, son-in-law Jeffrey Richard Coldren, who all live in Gainesville, FL, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marion loved photography, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Interment of his remains in the Hope Family plot in the Denmark City Cemetery in Denmark, SC will take place later.
