Shirley Jean DeGeer, age 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at her home in Fleming Island, Florida.  She was born on April 5,1938 in Tampa, FL to Corbett Mulligan Mitchell and Luellen Hodges (Mitchell).  She was a proud resident of Fleming Island, FL, formerly of Liberty, Kentucky, Bushnell, FL and Holiday, FL.
Shirley was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and amazing friend to many.  She was the proud owner of a dance barn, “Wagon Wheel Opry”, in Liberty, KY.  Prior to moving to KY, Shirley was a Real Estate Broker in Lake Panasoffkee, FL. Shirley relocated to Florida from KY in 2019 to be near her family. She enjoyed traveling by RV. Her hobbies and interests included clogging, country music, floral arrangement, cake decorating, cooking, jigsaw and word search puzzles, and bingo.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kathy L. Barrios of Fleming Island, FL and grandchildren, Jason E. Michael of Inverness, FL; Julie M. Michael of Starke, FL and Dana N. Barrios-Moltmaker of Jacksonville, NC.  In addition, she is survived by seven great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard DeGeer; mother, Luellen Mitchell; siblings, Joseph (aka “Pat”) C. Mitchell, Thomas M. Mitchell and Oscar Homer; and daughter, Debra J. Lumley.
Shirley will be greatly missed but her spirit will live on in the lives that she touched along her beautiful journey and stories of her will be shared for ages.
