Florida Tony here, may you keep telling jokes, laughing and making everyone around you laugh for the rest of time. Love and miss you Uncle Bruce. Rest easy mate
Bruce Marshall Floyd, 72, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, passed away on March 24, 2026. He was born March 16, 1954, in Corpus Christi, Texas. The son of a Navy family, Bruce spent most of his childhood in Topsham, ME and North Kingstown, RI and as a young man, took full advantage of his father’s posting in Rota, Spain, to explore Europe before eventually settling in Jacksonville Beach. As a boy he enjoyed all manner of getting into trouble, a talent he carried with him well into adulthood. Bruce attended New College in Sarasota, FL, and the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music. A proud New College alumnus, he protested Ron DeSantis’s takeover of the school with characteristic enthusiasm, occasionally invoking his favorite line from Blazing Saddles about “the leading …figure… in the state”. Over the years Bruce worked in custom home construction and later founded a successful marine construction company because “no one cares what color you paint their dock.” When he wasn’t reaching for the JB Weld to repair something, he was chasing the perfect VI-II–V–I chord progression on his jazz guitar. Bruce prided himself on being the funniest person in the room and took that responsibility very seriously. He was also rarely seen without his Panama hat, switching from straw to wool in the winter as his lone acknowledgment that cold weather existed.
Bruce is survived by his mother, Dorothy Lee Floyd; his wife, Beverly Floyd; his daughters, Jillian (Storm) Walker and Carly Floyd; his first wife, Colleen (Tom) Meeker; his sister, Laurie (Charlie) Morris; and his brother, Donald (Anne) Floyd. He was preceded in death by his father, Capt. Francis M. Floyd, U.S. Navy (Ret.), and his brother, Jerry Floyd.
