Richard Joseph McCarthy, 84, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on April 22, 2026
He was born on February 1, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Richard McCarthy, Sr. and Amanda McCarthy. Richard spent his life devoted to his family, his business, and cheering on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He had a gift for conversation and connection, he could talk to anyone, anywhere, and often did. He was an avid and passionate Bridge player, always ready to shuffle the deck and just as ready to convince someone new to join the table. He also loved playing chess and was known, at one time, for being one of the most frequent customers at Blockbuster Video, always in search of something new to watch.
Richard never stopped surprising those around him with his stories, his humor, and his love of music—often punctuated by his signature phrase, “Don’t stop, get it get it.” Nearly everyone who knew him has a story of a time he offered help, support, or simply showed up when it mattered most. His generosity and spirit left a lasting impact on countless lives.
He is survived by his beloved spouse, Carole McCarthy; his daughters, Kelley Conover, Christina Evans, and Erin Miller; his grandchildren, Addison Kneale, Zachary Lee, Selene Miller, and Corryn Miller; a great grandchild Conan Kneale, and his sisters, Mary Kay Pitha and Susan Jones.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Prayers to the family.
