Born in: Jacksonville, FL
Resided in: Jacksonville, FL

Nicholson “Nick” Brockdorf, 28, died on August 5, 2026. He was born on May 3, 1998.

Nick was kind, compassionate and unmistakably his own person. He had a quirky side that made him memorable to the people who knew him best. Those qualities were part of what made Nick Nick, and they are among the things his family will miss forever.

Nick earned a Finance degree from Florida State University. After graduating, he served in the United States Navy before deciding to pursue a different calling. He attended the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the University of Florida, and became a nurse at UF Health. Nursing suited Nick. He cared about people, and his compassion was quiet rather than showy. Those who knew him well understood the gentleness beneath a personality that could also be wonderfully unconventional.

His eccentric side was impossible to hide. When Nick was young, his father tried to take him to every Major League Baseball park. After about the fifth one, Nick was done—they were “horrible.” Years later, Nick told his father that he should have forced him to finish the baseball parks because they were fun.

That was Nick. He knew and shared his mind, like it or not. His droll, quick wit was a favorite quality to many. He was a loyal friend and family member, endlessly looking out for others. Nick was also a steadfast Jacksonville Jaguars fan, displaying the kind of devotion required of anyone who chooses to love Jaguars football. He made suggestions for exercise, healthy foods, and budgeting…sometimes before even being asked. He was unafraid to share his Christian faith. Nick was deeply loved by all who knew him.

Nick was the son of Soren Brockdorf and Amy Ward. He is also survived by his stepmother, Carmen Brockdorf; his stepfather, Joseph Ward; his sister, Alexandra Brockdorf (Chris Flanery); and his stepbrothers, Anthony Ruotolo (Allison Postier) and Colby Ward (Elizabeth Ward).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Nick’s memory to To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) at twloha.com, an organization devoted to helping people struggling with depression and suicide.

Nick’s family will remember him not simply for the last day of his life, but for all the days that came before it.

If you love someone, tell them today. If you can forgive, forgive today.

“…but exhort one another daily, while it is called ‘Today.’”

—Hebrews 3:13 (NKJV)

  1. Nick was listening to TobyMac’s “Campfire” before he died. Now I find myself listening to the same song. TobyMac wrote Heaven on My Mind after losing his 21-year-old son, Truett, as he tried to learn how to live while still carrying the grief of losing a child. Now I am listening to “Campfire” after losing my son, Nick. A song Nick listened to has taken on a meaning for me that I never could have imagined.
