Richard Lee Pittman

Richard was born on January 1, 1961, in Fernandina Beach, Florida, and was raised by his parents, Irene and Adlai Pittman Jr. He grew up in Mandarin, Florida, and graduated from University Christian School. A talented athlete, Richard went on to attend Jacksonville University, where he played baseball.

Richard carried the same determination he showed on the baseball field into his professional life. He began his career in banking with Barnett Bank before joining his family’s business, Pittman Concrete, where he served as Vice President. His entrepreneurial spirit eventually led him to establish Pittman Concrete Solutions. After selling the company to Birken Construction, Richard continued doing what he knew and loved, leading the company’s concrete division.

Richard was exceptionally hardworking, intelligent, and kind, but perhaps one of his greatest qualities was his willingness to help. He was the kind of man who could fix, build, or figure out just about anything, and if someone needed a hand, Richard was there. His knowledge and talents were matched by a generosity that made him someone that family, friends, and colleagues knew they could depend upon.

When he wasn’t working hard, Richard was happiest outdoors. He loved riding his Harley, beekeeping, hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and spending quiet nights at home with his wife, Stacee. He was also a loyal Jacksonville Jaguars fan.

Above all else, Richard was immensely proud of his family. Some of the memories his children carry are the simplest ones—including childhood mornings when Richard convinced them that the powdered sugar sprinkled over their French toast wasn’t powdered sugar at all, but “magic dust.” It was one of the many small ways his personality and sense of fun became woven into their childhoods.

Richard is survived by his wife, Stacee Jo Pittman; his children, Spencer Pittman (Brittany), Chelsea Swanson (Blake), and stepson Bronson White (Haley); and his grandchildren, Kam, Noah, Stone, Summer, Steele, Kowyn, and Sadie.

He is also survived by his parents, Irene and Adlai Pittman Jr.; his siblings, Todd Pittman (Angie), Darlene Wasdin (John), and Kevin Pittman; Mother of his children, Jill Pittman; his nieces, Kelly Zurvalec (Ryan), Victoria Stoshak (Jenson), Avery Davis (Reese), Cassidy Vescelus (Jackson), and Braley Luxenberg (Matthew); and his nephews, Chandler and Preston Pittman; along with extended family, friends, coworkers, and countless others whose lives were touched by his generosity and willingness to help.

Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Pittman; his grandson, Shepherd Swanson; and his grandparents, Arthur and Vera Rice and Madeline and Adlai Pittman Sr.

Richard faced his illness with remarkable strength and determination. Through an extraordinarily difficult journey, he continued fighting, continued hoping, and remained deeply grateful for the family and friends who stood beside him.

Richard leaves behind much more than the businesses he built or the projects he completed. He leaves behind a family he was tremendously proud of, a lifetime of hard work, countless people he helped along the way, and memories that will continue to be shared for generations.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Richard’s memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, supporting research and treatment for those affected by acute myeloid leukemia (AML), or to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a charity that was near and dear to Richard’s heart.
