Robert Louviere

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we mourn the passing of Robert Louviere of Gainesville, Florida, on August 25^th, 2026, at the age of eighty-seven. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Karen (Bobby); grandchildren Jack and Brooke; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Robert was born in Jeanerette, Louisiana in 1939 to Whitney and Virginia Louviere. He grew up in Louisiana with his older siblings Laura and Henry and younger sisters Rose and Eva. After graduating high school in Franklin, Louisiana, Robert joined the United States Navy. He met and married his beloved wife Phyllis while stationed in Rhode Island. He literally swept her off her feet and out the door of the bar when the police arrived and Phyllis admitted she was underage. Phyllis and Robert settled in Orange Park, Florida, with their son Whitney Paul and daughter Karen Ann. From 1975 until his retirement in 1987, Robert went to great lengths to keep his military family in one place. Taking assignments in Naval Air Station Jacksonville or Cecil Field or Mayport, all within minutes of their home, allowed his children to grow up in the same house that they called home for nearly 50 years.

Robert found great joy on the golf course with many great friends over the years. His golf clubs often went to sea, on family trips and on vacation. He also enjoyed country music, crossword puzzles, woodworking and fixing things around his house and those of his family. His “do it yourself” motto was always “Good enough for government work.”

Robert was a beloved “Pops” to his grandchildren Jack and Brooke. He loved it when they came to visit and always made time for them.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Phyllis, son Whitney Paul, brother Henry and his parents Whitney and Virginia.

No services are planned for Robert.
