Donald "DG" Gene Helfrich

Donald Gene Helfrich, better known as DG, passed August 18th, 2026, at age 79.

DG was born on April 18th, 1947, in New Salisbury, Indiana. He was a graduate of North Central High School in Ramsey, Indiana, attended IU Southeast and graduated at the top of his class from ITT with a degree in electronics.  DG went on to have careers with IBM, Zerox, and retired from Convergys Corporation as an IT Desktop Supervisor.  His favorite job was being a nanny to the younger 3 grandchildren after a move to Colorado.

He loved being around people, especially his grandchildren. He had an incredible servant’s heart and was always willing to help. He enjoyed serving the churches he attended and especially loved working in the concession stand with Amanda and watching the games. He was an avid Indiana Hoosier fan, where he would banter with Scott over their opposing teams, especially basketball.

He liked working with his hands and woodworking and made several pieces of furniture that family members still have and cherish.

He was predeceased in death by his parents Charles and Mary Lee Helfrich.

He is survived by his wife Betty Ann Helfrich whom he married on September 2,1967, his daughters, Amy McCall (Keoni), Amanda Hult (Scott), grandchildren, Chase McCall, Abby  Bell (Kyle), Evan McCall (Danielle), Elliana Hult, Loreli Hult and Victoria Hult. Great grandchildren, Rylie McCall, Baylie McCall, Maverick McCall, Roewan McCall, his brother Ray Helfrich (Ann), and lifelong friends Bill and Pat Powell.
