June 17, 1942 ~ October 20, 2026

Born in: Belle, MO
Resided in: Gainesville, FL

Margaret “Peggy” DeWitt passed away on October 20, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on June 17, 1942, in Belle, Missouri, she was the daughter of Flavil Joseph “Joe” and Betty Margaret Elrod.

As the daughter of a United States Air Force serviceman, Peggy spent her childhood moving to various states and even had the opportunity to live in England while her father was stationed there. These experiences gave her a life filled with change, new places, and memories that would stay with her throughout the years.

Peggy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved sewing and was an avid reader, always enjoying a good book. She was also known for baking some of the most delicious pies, sharing her love through the warmth and comfort of homemade treats. Later in life, she took up square dancing, knitting, and bingo, embracing new hobbies and finding enjoyment in the things that brought her happiness.

A dedicated and devout Christian, Peggy was raised in the Methodist Church and devoted much of her spare time to church throughout her life. Her faith was an important part of who she was and remained a guiding presence throughout her years.

Peggy is survived by her daughters, Audrey Perry and Patty Cox, and her son-in-law, Roger Cox, all of Gainesville, Florida. She leaves behind three grandchildren: Travis Perry of Portland, Oregon; Seth Cox and his fiancée, Lauren Hovsepian; and Hayden Cox, both of Gainesville, Florida.

She is also survived by her niece, Dorothy Jerome-Ramirez, and Dorothy’s children, Joshua and Jaden Ramirez, all of Syracuse, New York; and her nephew, Michael Jerome, and his wife, Christina, of South Florida, along with their sons, Jesse Jerome and his wife, Emily, and Jacob Jerome.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, John DeWitt; her parents, Flavil Joseph “Joe” and Betty Margaret Elrod; her sister, Jesse Patricia Goodman; and her son, Brian Allen Manion.

Though she will be deeply missed by her family and those who knew her, Peggy’s memory will live on through the lives she touched, the traditions she shared, the faith she cherished, and the love she gave to those around her.

Crevasse’s Simple Cremation is honored to serve the family.

No service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
