Alice Jones Rhatigan (1935-2025) was born Alice Anna Jones in Maquoketa, Iowa on June 3, 1935. She was the daughter and only child of Glenn Milford Jones and Margaret Dyer Jones. In 1938 they moved to Monticello, Iowa where she spent her formative years attending Monticello Grade School and High School. Alice was band majorette and homecoming queen. After graduating high school in 1953, she attended the University of Iowa for a year before transferring to Iowa State University where she graduated in 1957 with a BS degree in Home Economics. Alice was president of Chi Omega Sorority at Iowa State and inducted into Omicron Nu, the Home Economics Honor Society. Upon graduation, she married Ronald Merlin Rhatigan and helped him finish medical school by teaching middle school at West Branch, Iowa. She was a life-long member of PEO.
Alice is survived by a daughter Jennifer Lynn Rhatigan (Stephen Frick) and two sons, Ronald Glenn Rhatigan (Tamara Gabrielsen) and Douglas Bartlett Rhatigan (Cheryl Bassett). In 1967 the family moved to Jacksonville, Florida where Alice lived the rest of her life. Ron and Alice divorced in 1980. After raising her family, Alice attended the University of North Florida (UNF) and obtained a BS in Dietetics and an MS degree in Public Health. She was licensed as a clinical dietician and worked at University Hospital of Jacksonville for 25 years. She greatly enjoyed the camaraderie with her coworkers in the hospital kitchen and met with them socially many times after she retired. Alice was instrumental in initiating the UNF chapter of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) and enjoyed many years of education and friendship there. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing bridge and traveling the world.

I will miss my good friend. She was a very dear person.
Although we weren't geographically close, we were the only Jones girls. Rest in peace, Alice.
Love, Jody.
