Arta Faye Allen of Alachua passed away May 17, 2018 after suffering a lengthy battle with the
effects of a massive stroke that occured in 2015.
She is survived by her loving, devoted husband of 58 years, William Theo Allen, along with her
four children and their spouses, Betsy Allen, Bill (Ginny) Allen, Lucy (Jan) Chase and Amanda
(Lance) Malcolm. She is also survived by six grandchildren - Josh, Adam and Zachary Chase,
David Malcolm, Will Allen (fiance, Alex Kelly), Amanda (Charlie) Burchfield and one
great-granddaughter, Brice Burchfield.
Arta was a loving wife and mother who took great pride in her large family. She showed her love
by being a devoted wife and homemaker. She loved many things -- her family, her dog
Sylvester, reading, traveling, collecting cookbooks, creating memorable holidays and cooking.
Her passion and great talent was in the kitchen, creating beautiful meals for her family. It was
her special way of showing her immense love for her family and friends. Each of her children
has a special dish that she would create just for them on holidays - knowing that it would bring
them great happiness and joy. She would often spend days in the kitchen, prepping and
preparing a holiday meal.
Arta’s love for her family was unmatched. She often remarked that her children and
grandchildren were her greatest source of pride. She and Theo created a beautiful marriage
together, along with an idyllic childhood for each of their children. Her grandchildren are also left
with many happy, loving memories of the woman they knew and loved as ‘Nene.’
Arta was also blessed with great intellect and a tremendous sense of humor. She loved reading
every day, finishing crossword puzzles and knowing most of the answers on her favorite TV
show, Jeopardy. And, despite being confined to a wheelchair the last few years of her life --
completely immobile and unable to care for herself -- she endured that phase of her life with
undeniable strength, grace and dignity. She was an example to all of someone who never gave
up, despite many challenges.
Arta will always be loved and missed greatly by her family. They each take comfort knowing that
she is no longer suffering or in pain, and she has gone home to be with her Heavenly Father,
along with her beloved father and mother, Ned and Lucy Flowers, and her infant son Norman.
