It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara Jean Jackson, 84, who passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, in Gainesville, FL. Born on November 27, 1940, in Chicago, IL, Barbara spent the majority of her life in Gainesville.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard (Jack) Jackson; her son, Howard Smith; and her brothers, John Greeno and Howard (Ed) Greeno. She is survived by her brother, Earnie Greeno (Romona) of Bend, OR; her children, Joe Levi Smith Jr. (Debra) of Bushnell, FL, Sheryl Lanning (Roy Spicer) of Sarasota, FL, Delica Smith of Bushnell, FL, and Larry Sikes (Joanne) of Bronson, FL. Barbara was also deeply cherished by Fernando Marcano, who was a loving companion and friend. Her enduring love for her family and her faith was a constant source of strength and comfort throughout her life.
Barbara’s Baptist faith provided solace to her, and she will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and her love of simple pleasures. After retiring from the Department of Corrections, she enjoyed thrift shopping, watching movies, and keeping in touch with her family and friends by phone.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Barbara’s memory to the Haven Foundation at Haven Hospice Donations.
A service to honor Barbara's life will be held at a later date.
Barbara will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Crevasse's Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Jackson family.
