Carol Young Carnell
Carol Young Carnell died peacefully in Gainesville, FL, on February 27, 2022.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1929, she was a fourth-generation New Yorker. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Wheaton College (Illinois) and a master’s degree in Spanish from Columbia University.
She married Corbin Scott Carnell in 1951, and they moved to Gainesville in 1956.
Carol taught English as a second language at Santa Fe College and in the adult education program of the Alachua County Schools. Her skill, warmth, and creativity helped many immigrants find a surer footing in this country.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for more than 50 years. She taught Sunday school, co-chaired the prayer chain, visited shut-ins and nursing home residents, and ministered to others in need.
Carol struggled with a neurological disease that left her deaf in one ear and (for her last 60 years) unable to walk without leg braces. Yet she bore those disabilities with quiet courage even as she lived vigorously in the service of others.
She was loving, patient, generous, strong, and kind—a wise counselor always ready to see and encourage the good in other people.
She is survived by four sons: Richard, of Gainesville; Alan, of Bristol, TN; Stephen, of Naples, FL; and Peter, of Athens, GA. She is also survived by her brother, Allen Young, of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; by her grandchildren, Andria, Brian, Christy, David, Gracey, Holly, Ian, James, Melissa, Rebecca, and Zachary; and by her great-grandchildren, Beau, Harrison, Isadora, Kent, Rosalie, and Valentina. Carol’s husband, Corbin, preceded her in death.
For information on her Memorial Service please contact the family or the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Gainesville, Florida.

Both Corbin and Carol were very good friends of from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and New York, NY, since I am a native of Harlem NY. Carol prayed 🙏 for my son's brain surgery that was successful! Carol & Corbin, both, were excellent leader's! I truly miss them both for their humanitarian success to help all God's children!
Blessings,
