Carole Anne Oglesby, age 79, passed away on Aug. 9, 2025 at the Windsor of Gainesville senior living residence. She was born on August 29th, 1945 to Sam and Florence Finklea in Moncks Corner, SC. Carole Anne had one sibling, Ricky. She had no children.
Carole Anne graduated from Berkley High School in Moncks Corner in 1963. She graduated cum laude with a B.A. degree in English from Limestone College in Gaffney, SC, in 1967, where she was the outstanding graduating senior.
Carole Anne is survived by her husband of 56 years, Rob Oglesby. They married in 1969 in Palm Beach, after meeting as young reporters for the Palm Beach Post.
In 1969 the Oglesbys moved to Gainesville, where Carole Anne began a long career in communications at the University of Florida, including positions at the UF College of Medicine, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, and Division of Sponsored Research.
Carole Anne served on the board or service committees of the UF Baby Gator child development center, Friends of Ronald McDonald House, American Cancer Society, Florida Public Relations Association, Altrusa of Gainesville, Leadership Gainesville, and United Way of Alachua County.
Carole Anne and Rob traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Caribbean.
“There wasn’t anything she couldn’t do,” Rob said. “She was an absolute driver. She loved her job, she loved the Gators, and she loved me,” Rob said. And together they loved their home at Newnans Lake, where they lived for more than 50 years.
