Carolsue (Carolyn Suzanne) Cummings

December 21, 1944 ~ August 6, 2025

Carolsue (Carolyn Suzanne) Cummings (née Jones), age 80, passed away peacefully on August 6th, 2025.

Carolsue was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a lifelong servant of others, both professionally and spiritually. Born December 21st, 1944 in Merchantville, New Jersey, she was the daughter of John Ellsworth and Mary Jane (Beetle) Jones, both of whom preceded her in death.

She spent most of her life living in Surf City, New Jersey on Long Beach Island where she raised her three daughters. Later in life she would spend the winter months in On Top of the World in Ocala, Florida.

Carolsue was always happy and willing to help others in their time of need whether it be a listening ear, words of encouragement or financial support. Others were naturally drawn to her bubbly, kind personality, and it took only moments for her to make a new friend. Throughout her life, she gathered a beautiful network of friends from every corner of the world.

Selfless by nature she always worked to make others smile and feel happy, which was exemplified in her work as a hospice chaplain and certified bereavement counselor. Through these roles, she provided comfort, dignity and hope to families navigating profound loss. Her calm presence and heartfelt compassion brought peace to many during their most vulnerable moments.

Her calling in life was to serve as a deacon at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Waretown, New Jersey. She became an ordained deacon in 1990 with the guidance of reverend Bill Paul and lived out her ministry with humility, strength, and love.

Music was one of Carolsue’s greatest joys; she loved to play her dulcimer and sing, and her voice lifted spirits and united hearts. She was able to pursue her passions in On Top of the World as a member of the Concert Chorus, Dulcimer Club and AcaBella (women’s acapella group) during her time spent in Florida. Through these groups, she was able to embrace these passions while making beautiful friendships with a wide array of other members in the community.

Carolsue had a deep and enduring love for dogs and her home was always shared with a loyal canine companion or two who brought her endless comfort and joy. These furry friends were an integral part of her daily life and she cared for them deeply. In return, she was met with loyalty and unwavering love.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Don Cummings, and their cherished daughters Donna-Lynne (Navarro), DeAnne (Blueter) and Danielle (Arnold), as well as her granddaughters Autumn, Lauryn, Emily and Tara who will carry forth her legacy of love, grace and resilience. Carolsue’s life was marked by unwavering faith, deep compassion and joyful service. She leaves behind a lasting impact that will live on in the lives she touched and the hearts that hold her dear. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Carolsue’s deep love for animals, please consider donating to the ASPCA.

  2. What a joy it was to know her and sing alongside Carrol Sue. Although I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing her for a long time, in the short time we knew eachother she became special to me and I’m grateful for her friendship and love. She always had a smile on her face and a warm embrace to match along with sweet and encouraging words. My last memory of her though bittersweet will remain with me and I will be eternally grateful for the chance to visit with her, share love, listen to music and pray together. Heaven gained an angel and I know we will meet again in heaven. Until then sweet friend, rest in peace knowing you left your unforgettable mark on so many. Thank you for your light and love. I love and miss you.

  3. CarolSue always had a smile and a kind word for all. She will be greatly missed by not only her family, but her friends and people who she came in contact with. May she rest in peace without pain.

  4. We were childhood friends in early elementary school .  She was always laughing.  A very happy soul.  I only saw her once after we graduated high school.  We had lunch a few years ago.  It was good to catch up!  So sorry for her loving family.

  5. I know Carolsue many years. I attended St Stephan’s Episcopal Church and we both worked a Meridian Hospice together as chaplains. During that time we had wonderful deep discussions and supported one another through difficult times. Carolsue’s “Broom Closet” at Meriden and her bright smile and silliness to help others will always stay with me as well as her love for her family and dogs. Rest in Peace, Carolsue and feast at the heavenly banquet with Jesus!🙏

  6. Carolsue, a beloved member of Acabella in OTOW 55+ retirement community in Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by love and friendship. Known for her warm smile and generous spirit, she brought joy to many through her passion for music as the member of the community’s dulcimer and AcaBella group. Her beautiful voice and enthusiasm lifted hearts during countless performances, and her presence was a cherished part of gatherings both on and off the stage. Carolsue will be remembered for the harmony she created in both song and life, leaving behind lasting memories of kindness, laughter, and melody.

  7.  I met Carol Sue in elementary school. After those days I don’t have a memory of her.
One day she asked if I could spend the night at her house. All these many decades later I recall making her laugh repeatedly when we should have been asleep. I recall her mother opening the bedroom door and asking me to stop making her laugh since too much of it would give her hiccups. Loud ones her mom evidently heard through our door! She was a very happy child!
      Thinking of her family today.
