Catherine Egenia(Genie) Boothby

Catherine Eugenia Boothby (Genie) was born to Margaret and Charlton Melton September 4th 1952, in Gainesville Florida. “Genie is a Singer”! Her love for Music and Voice filled her life, from a child and member of choirs at First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, to Melodettes at Gainesville High School, to her School choirs In Public school systems throughout the U.S.. She was chosen out of hundreds auditioning for “Genie with the Light Brown Hair” for Florida’s Stephen Foster Memorial Music Festival. Genie received her Bachelor of Music/Piano Degree from Mars Hill College in North Carolina. She taught Elementary Music in the Florida ,Texas, and North Carolina School Systems. Genie always talked about and remembered her Voice Mentors Gene Wade, Catherine Murphee, Willis Bodine and Mark Coffey. Genie and her husband David lived in 9 states, following David’s career. Genie and David were married 45 years and shared their Love for Music and Performance. Genie dedicated her life, after teaching music, to raising her children. She had two beloved Children, Jonathan David and Alison Eugenia, and three beautiful Grandchildren, Amelia Claire, Jackson David and Charlotte Laraine.

Genie is predeceased by her loving parents, Charlton and Margaret Melton and her sister Betty Vidal. She is remembered by her sisters Marylin Bostick and Virginia McCormick.

  1. Genie was a wonderful person. She could sing and cook with the best. She had a great smile and laugh. She and her husband, David, were a fantastic couple who supported each other all their married lives. We will miss Genie very much. I was fortunate enough to have known Genie and for fifty years as our working lives and friendship grew over time. God bless Genie and God bless David and their children.
