Dale Alan Davis passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, after courageously facing dementia for several years. Born in Jacksonville, Dale moved to Gainesville during his junior high years and quickly made the city his home. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1968, where he proudly played varsity football and baseball. He later earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida in 1974.
Dale built a successful career in retail management, serving many years as a store manager with Winn-Dixie before pursuing other business ventures and ultimately retiring from Food Lion. He also served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves. Outside of work, Dale loved the outdoors—surfing, fishing, hunting, and golfing were among his favorite pastimes.
He is survived by his children, Jason Davis and Meredith Hoyt, both of Gainesville; three beloved grandsons, Jake Davis, Evan Hoyt, and Riley Hoyt; and his brothers Ricky (Hilma), Scott, and David (Christine). He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews as well as his former wife, Jane Powers McKinney. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Albert “Al” Davis Jr. and Shirlie Thompson Davis, and his older brother, Ira Albert “Skippy” Davis III.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Alz Place, where Dale found friendship and care, and to Cypress Care Center for their compassionate support during his final months. A special thank-you goes to Bruce Tinney, whose visits and monthly gatherings with jr. high classmates brought Dale joy and connection.
