Dennis Ray Carroll

April 28, 1959 ~ April 10, 2025

Dennis Ray Carroll passed away on the morning of April 10th, 2025, in Jacksonville, FL, with his son and daughter by his side, after a battle due to complications caused by liver disease. He was sixty-five years old.

Dennis was preceded in death by the passing of his parents, Ollie and Lear Carroll, as well as his brothers Hubert Carroll, Edwin Carroll, and his sister Helen Wirtz.

Born in Jacksonville, FL, on April 28th, 1959, Dennis was raised in Jacksonville as the youngest of seven siblings.

Dennis would remain in Jacksonville until joining the U.S. Navy a short time after graduating from high school. His career would take him across the globe, and his time serving on various aircraft carriers and traveling to different countries would create many of the favorite highlights of his life. Dennis was fond of telling stories from his time in the Navy, and his love of the Navy and the U.S. military in general was apparent to anybody who spoke to him about his service. As a veteran who proudly served, Dennis always maintained a passion for military history and current military events.

In his free time, Dennis loved to watch NFL football, college football, and NASCAR. Dennis was a lifelong Dolphins fan until the Jacksonville Jaguars joined the NFL, which eventually led to Dennis adopting them as his favorite team. When it came to college football, Dennis was a faithful Florida State Seminoles fan, and his passion for the Noles was undeniable. As a long-time NASCAR fan, Dennis made sure to catch every race that came on. His favorite driver was Bill Elliot. Dennis was a voracious consumer of his favorite sports and he passed on that love of sports to his son.

Dennis had a strong love of nature and the outdoors. He loved to walk various old battleground sites in Florida, combining his love of nature with military history. He enjoyed taking his children to zoos and animal parks, in addition to historical sites in and around Florida. Dennis loved to learn about the world and always encouraged his children to be curious and learn as much as they could about the world around them.

Above all, Dennis was a kind and sensitive man, and a dependable and loving father. Dennis was always interested in how his children were doing and would call frequently to discuss how their lives were going. There isn’t anything that his children could ask that Dennis would not try to make happen if it was within his power. He loved his children greatly and was always ready to offer help, advice, or simply a sympathetic audience to whatever was going on in their lives. He was proud of every accomplishment, would offer his love through every hardship, and was always there for his children through good times and bad.

Dennis fought bravely against the liver disease that would eventually take his life. His will to fight was there until the very end when his body simply couldn’t continue any longer. Dennis lived his life in much the same way - He was a fighter who would always rise to the occasion to overcome any obstacles that may have been placed in front of him. He would not give up on

anything if he had a chance to overcome it. His example will be remembered and carried by his children for the rest of their lives.

Dennis Ray Carroll is survived by his son Darrin Carroll, his daughter Michelle Carroll, and by his brothers Ervin Carroll, Albert Carroll, and Floyd Carroll.

Dennis Ray Carroll will be missed immensely and the love he had for his family will never be forgotten.

Per his request, Dennis was cremated and there were no formal memorial services at the time of his passing. Condolences can be passed along to his surviving children and family.

  1. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Denise was like me the baby of the family. I wish I would’ve known that he was sick.
May the family find peace during these difficult times.
      Blessing to you all
    Love Joy

  2. My grandmother is Nettie Carroll and my mom is Quinnelle. I remember going to Ollie and Lear’s house whenever great grandpa lived with them when I was only 3 or 4 but remember it well. Even though we were close in age, I never really knew Dennis. I am sorry for your loss.
