Dorothy “Dot” Deen Collins
Dorothy Collins passed away on September 1, 2024 in Gainesville, Florida. She was born on February 28, 1932 in Baxley, Georgia. The daughter of Downie D. and Edith Miles Deen, Dorothy graduated from Baxley High school. She attended business college in Jacksonville, where she met the love of her life, Mertin Stewart Collins. She and Stewart spent many happy years in Jacksonville, where they married and started their family while Dorothy worked for Southern Bell. Later they resided in Miramar, Florida and Columbia, South Carolina where she was a homemaker and sold real estate. In 1992, Dot and Stewart relocated to Gainesville where they delighted in being close to their daughter, son, and grandson.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Mertin Stewart Collins, Sr. and her son, Mertin Stewart Collins, Jr. as well as, her parents, seven brothers: John Herbert Lamar Deen, Clyde Downie Deen, Thomas Louie Deen, Quinton Adason Deen, Grady Warren Deen, James Ellis Deen and Downie D. Deen Jr. and two sisters: Mildred Fowler and Merle Morehouse. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Ann Collins, grandson and wife, Matthew Collins and Renee Richter of Gainesville, and her sister, Frankie Blanton of Fleming Island.
Dorothy will be deeply mourned by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends. She will be remembered for loving hugs, her easy laughter and loyal friendship to many throughout her life.
Memorial gifts can be made to a charity of your choice. A memorial service is being planned for Saturday, October 12, when her ashes will be interred at Trinity Methodist Church in Northwest Gainesville. Contact the family for details

Aunt Dot was as sweet as they come. She always made me smile and she was just fun to be around. As a kid, I have so many fond memories of family get to togethers at her house in West Jax.
