Dorothy Penrod Mings

November 22, 2018

Dorothy Mae Penrod, 83, passed away at E.T. York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville Florida on Thursday November 22, 2018 with her loving family by her side.
Born in Washington Pa. on May 4th 1935, Dorothy married her one true love Norman I. Penrod of Avella Pa. on June 3, 1953. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2005.
Dorothy spent several years working in retail, though what was most important to her was maintaining a loving home environment for not only her family, but also others in need. She loved being a wife and mother above all else. She opened her home to many friends of her children throughout the years. In 2017 while on her way to church service she learned of an elderly couple from Tampa FL. stranded at a gas station with nowhere in Gainesville available to seek shelter from impending hurricane Irma. A true testament of the loving person she was Dorothy graciously accepted them into her home.
In addition to her husband of 53 years Dorothy was preceded in death by her 2 sons, Norman Wade and Mark Irvin Penrod both formerly of Grand Prairie Texas. Dorothy and Norman were previous residents of Grand Prairie Texas as well.
She is survived by her two daughters, Penny L. and husband Craig G. Smith of Grand Prairie Texas and Colette S. and husband William D. Goodfellow of Gainesville Florida. Her loving grandchildren Tiffany L. Smith and Ashley N. Smith both of Grand Prairie Texas, Amanda S. Hoskins, William D. Goodfellow Jr., Richard A. Goodfellow, Katelynn J. Goodfellow, and Codey I. Goodfellow all of Gainesville Florida and her beloved great grandchildren, Tristan D. and Anabelle M. Brock both of Gainesville Fl., Hunter L. Fincher and Aden S. Thomason both of Grand Prairie Texas.
