Douglas Duke, Sr. of Trenton, Florida passed away on January 30, 2020 at the age of 77. Doug was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Kate Allison Duke and John Raymond Duke on June 3, 1942. He moved with his family to Hawthorne, Florida as a young boy and later graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1960. From 1961 – 1963 he was stationed in Key West, Florida where he served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Atule. He continued his service with the Naval Reserves until 1965. After his military service, Doug remained in and around North Central Florida. He spent most of his career as a wallpaper hanger and painter. He was secretly also a very talented artist.
Doug is preceded in death by Eleanor Gilyard Duke (wife); John Raymond Duke (father); Tommy Duke (brother); and baby girl Allison (sister).
Doug is survived by his daughter, Summer Pridgen (Jody); son, Douglas Duke, Jr. (Jennifer); mother, Kate Allison Duke; sister, Jean Beasley (Ronnie); step-daughters, Janice Ashmore (Michael) and Kimberly Erickson (Jay); and grandchildren, Trisch, Kieley, Kearsten, Pierce, Jessica, and Kyle.
Doug is best remembered for his love for animals (especially his goat farm that he and his late wife managed during their retirement). He had a deep love for all animals, his family and friends, the Florida Gators, and the country life. And, he always had a good joke to tell.

Doug was a dear friend of mine and my late husband Chubby Rutledge for many years. They love to hunt and fish together. Even though I haven’t seen Doug for many years I thought about him often. You will be missed. RIP Doug. Love Hazel
