Douglas Keith Lunn

April 20, 1963 ~ May 14, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Keith Lunn, 62, of Jacksonville, Florida. He passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.

Born on April 20, 1963, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Doug was the son of Patricia Bonavia and David Lunn. He was later raised by Patricia and her husband, Richard Bonavia, whose steady presence and support had a lasting impact on Doug’s life. He spent the majority of his adult life in Lancaster, Ohio, where he raised his family and built a life centered on love, music, and hard work. In more recent years, he returned to Jacksonville, Florida.

Doug worked his entire life as a skilled CNC machinist, but his true legacy was built through music and fatherhood. A die-hard fan of Dream Theater, Doug lived and breathed music. He played lead guitar in several bands throughout his life, often sharing fond stories from the stage. After his time performing, he dedicated himself to teaching others the art of playing guitar. There were always guitars leaning in corners, cords snaking across the floor, and amps humming somewhere nearby. His passion wasn’t just a hobby — it was a way of life.

More than anything, Doug was a fiercely devoted father. He raised his sons as a single dad, and they were his pride, his purpose, and his best friends. He poured himself into coaching their sports teams, especially baseball, and was always present — whether from the dugout or the front row of life.

He was a sharp, no-nonsense kind of man who called things exactly as he saw them. You always knew where you stood with Doug — he had no time for pretending, and you could count on him for the raw truth, often delivered with a smirk and a perfectly timed joke. Known for his smart-a** wit and sharp sense of humor, he had a gift for making people laugh and for never letting a serious moment last too long.

Doug was also famously stubborn. If he didn’t want to do something, he simply wasn’t going to do it — and no amount of convincing could change his mind. That stubborn streak was part of his charm, and it helped shape his strength, his principles, and his deep loyalty to the people and passions he cared about.

Doug is survived by his mother, Patricia Bonavia; his father, David Lunn; his wife, Michele Lunn; his son, Chad Lunn; his sister, Catherine(Cass) Fortuna; his brothers, Matt Lunn and Jason Lunn; and his grandchildren: Alainah Lunn, Jaxon Lunn, and Rylee Lunn. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jake Lunn, and by his stepfather, Richard Bonavia.

In keeping with Doug’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral or calling hours. Instead, a celebration of life will be held at a later date, where friends and family can gather to share stories, laughter, and maybe a little music in his honor. Details will be shared via social media.

Doug will be deeply missed, but we find peace in knowing he’s reunited with his son, his father, and many dear friends. Somewhere out there, he’s playing the perfect solo — just the way he always wanted
