Dr. Carmen Cagno

September 28, 2024

Carmen James Cagno, 81, formerly of New Castle, PA, passed away in his sleep while in Hospice care in St. Johns, FL on September 28, 2024. He was born on December 8, 1942, in New Castle, PA to the late Carmen Cagno and Antoinette “Nina” Giannone.

Carmen graduated from New Castle High School in 1960 and earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA. He earned a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh, PA. Carmen opened his dental office in New Castle in 1975 and continued practicing until he retired in 2009. Dr. Cagno was a charitable dentist loved by his patients and staff.

Carmen was a devout Christian, and it showed throughout his life; from raising his family in the church to helping and always showing love and kindness to others. He was the best “girl” dad to Jennifer (Cagno) Raby and Jeanine (Mark) Zeigler. He juggled the basic dad roles while also taking them to concerts, WWF wrestling, and shopping at Ross Park Mall. In 1994, he married Cheri (Farnen) Wilson and became a great second dad to Kimberly (Rob) Burch, Keith (Christa) Wilson, Keri (Chris) Sands, and Kert (Aimee) Wilson.

Carmen enjoyed fishing, playing golf with Cheri and friends, and traveling to Italy, England, Hawaii, Alaska, and other countries. He loved to go to Myrtle Beach, SC and on cruises with family and friends. After retiring, Carm and Cheri would spend winter months in Orlando, having many magical days at the Disney parks with new and old friends, especially when the kids and grandkids would visit during spring break. His smile was priceless with the joy they brought him. Carmen loved attending their sporting events, concerts, and recitals, supporting all their activities. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially cheering on the Steelers and Pitt Panthers. He mostly loved spending time with his family; especially being entertained by his grandchildren, laughing, and smiling while watching them grow.

Carmen is survived by his loving wife, Cheri; his six children; his 15 grandchildren, Jordan (Emily), Lindsey (Samir), Madison (Jake), Garrett, Mackenzie, Jackson, Sydney, Carson, Ethan, Anthony, Blake, Keira, Jack, Jeremy, and Neeve; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Cora; his only brother, Ray (Gretchen) Cagno; sisters-in-law, Sandy Christy, Cindy (Rick) Tracy, Debby (Denny) Hawks, and Tammy (Tom) Carter; and his many cousins, nieces and nephews. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

Donations in memory of Carmen J. Cagno can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Crevasse's Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Cagno family.

  6. I was just a very small child when I lived with Uncle Carmen (his dad) and Aunt Nina (his mom). My mother, Josephine Lambert (Uncle Camen's sister) was very ill and couldn't care for me and my two brothers at the time. We all stayed with the Cagno families. Carmen James was my cousin and a teenager at the time. He and Raymond helped take such good care of me. He was like a big brother! He has remained a warm and happy memory for me. I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a very good man.

    Jo Anne Lambert Podolsky
