Our definition of the perfect veterinarian is Dr Todd. We fondly remember Dr Todd for the years he cared for our furry family members. He became our veterinarian when my Aunt Mary (Eaton) told my mom she found a fantastic clinic and Vet back in the early 80s. I had the opportunity to have a part time job working there after school in High School and College for a couple years. During that time I learned life skills which at the time I did not realize. He taught by example, showing compassion to his clients and their pets when the discussions were difficult, when decisions had to be made, and when financially the client was in a tough spot. I learned about data entry as I was there during the conversion of paper files to a computer-based system and would be one of many of who would grab a stack of records to input the historical information. I learned to face fears of seeing things you can never unsee and assisting in surgery, as well as doing the humbling solo job of cleaning kennels. Real life lessons that I will cherish forever. Then a couple years later, our family was being relocated due to a change in employment for my father. We were moving to Kentucky… Louisville specifically. My mother and Sister, in one of her many tasks of moving the house of 30+ years was getting medical records for the pets in order. In one of the last visits to the clinic, she and my sister Caroline took a new litter of kittens for a checkup. During this visit they told him we were moving to Louie-Ville. He, as only he could do, politely corrected her pronunciation of his hometown. He said “well, you need to learn how to say it right before you move… Its Luha – Vull”. We ended up finding a home not far from the town he was from and stayed there for many years. She fondly remembers that story and was lucky to have that correction made before moving. We hold him forever in our hearts as being one of the best Veterinarian’s we ever had. We believe both Dr Todd and Aunt Mary are at the Rainbow Bridge greeting all their beloved departed pets.
You are in our thoughts and prayers,
Anita Young, Caroline Young Tomlinson, and Chrissy Young Burch
Please accept my sincerest condolences for Dr. Todd. I worked with him at the South Florida VMA. His pleasant personality and genuine concern for the veterinary community were admirable.
