Elina Schlappkohl Salcedo passed away September 3, 2025 in Gainesville, FL, surrounded by all of her children.
Born in Barranquilla, Colombia where she spent a joyful and adventurous childhood, she moved to New York in the late 1960s to start her family with husband Octavio Salcedo, creating additional warm memories in Texas, Connecticut and Oklahoma, and eventually moved to Florida in 1984. Elina was a homemaker who always sought to care and serve those around her.
Elina had a wonderful sense of humor, a mischievous streak, an iron will, was deeply protective of her children, and had a sharp mind until the very end. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies in her life - volunteering with church, reading, gardening, bowling, word games, and numerous others.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Leonor Velez and Maxwell Schlappkohl, and her oldest sister Elisabeth (Schlappkohl) Herrera.
She is survived by her three children, Octavio Salcedo, Jr. (Nanci), daughter Ilse (Adam) Salcedo-Ferguson, daughter Johanna Salcedo, grandchildren Vaughn, Sophia, Noah, and Cal and sisters Leonor Patiño and Ilse Vengeochea, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and to her recent delight, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
Please reach out to her children for information on future celebration of life or mass intentions. In place of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Always a devoted and caring mother, she touched the lives of those who knew her. May her beautiful memory and wise teachings live on in our hearts and minds forever 💝
A great person and mother. Will be missed.
