Frederick "Ed" George Lombard

December 15, 1954 ~ October 1, 2024

Frederick George Lombard (Ed)
December 15, 1954 – October 1, 2024

Ed went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 1st.  He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Penny.  In addition, he is survived by his sisters, Ina Wiid (Lourens) and Isobell Botha from South Africa; his sons, Johan Bronkhorst and Marius Bronkhorst from South Africa, Stephan Lombard (Magen) from Michigan; daughter Christie Priddy (Kevin) from Florida; Marietta Swanepoel from South Africa, who was like a daughter to him; and many grandchildren, most recently Livia Priddy.  Ed had the honor of being a “hands on” Oupa since Livia was born, and she was the light of his life.  She also loved her Oupa dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephanis Lombard and Matilda Lombard, and his precious grandson, Ivan Bronkhorst.

Ed was born in Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa. He served in the South African Air Force and then attended the University of South Africa with studies in Computer Science. He moved to the United States in the late 1980’s and soon after proudly became an American Citizen.

Ed and Penny met while working at the School District of Palm Beach County. They became best friends, fell in love, and married in 2003.  They both considered each other their soulmates.

Ed worked for the School District for 18 years and retired as a Data Base Administrator in August 2021.

Ed was a passionate South Africa Springbok Rugby fan and would religiously awaken early to watch the matches live. He was a huge football fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines (Go Blue!) which is where he first lived when he moved to America. By default, he was also a big fan of the Marshall University Thundering Herd (Go Herd!) and the University of Florida Gators (Go Gators!). He was also an NFL fan, first loving the San Francisco 49ers (he liked the colors), and then the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (because of Michigan’s Tom Brady, of course).

Ed never met a stranger. He enjoyed being around people, love, and laughter.  He especially loved teasing his mother-in-law, Joan, while she was living.  We aren’t sure if she liked it, but he refused to call her Joan and rather called her Mom.  That’s how much he loved her.

Ed had a generous spirit and kind heart.  He touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

We can all be at peace knowing that Ed is at peace, in no pain, and most likely dancing on the streets of gold in Heaven.
