Gary Lee Cummings
1950 – 2022

Gary Lee Cummings, beloved husband, father, and brother, died of natural causes on January 9, 2022, at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. Gary was a longtime resident of Gainesville, Florida.

The son of Major Frederick Ernest Cummings, Sr. and Irene Perry Cummings, Gary was born on June 13, 1950 in Trenton, New Jersey while his father was serving in the U. S. Army. Gary spent his young adult years in Norfolk, Virginia, eventually moving to Blacksburg, Virginia, where he graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He loved the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and set up residence at Claytor Lake, where he owned and operated several businesses in partnership with his brother. Gary was a successful businessman and eventually sold the businesses to pursue new opportunities. His passion for traveling led him to join the U. S. Army, where he served in the Military Police stationed in Panama and touring Central America. Upon completing military service, Gary relocated to Colorado, living in several beautiful cities including Breckenridge and Manitou Springs. Gary enjoyed the natural beauty of the area and visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. His love of travel and adventure took him to many places around the world, including Russia, China, and Thailand. Gary eventually settled down in Gainesville, Florida, and was blessed to have two beloved daughters. He and his wife enjoyed family outings to many beautiful beaches and state parks. He especially loved Washington Oaks State Park, which he spoke of often. One of Gary’s best qualities was storytelling and the ability to make others laugh. He had a quick mind and funny sense of humor, finding the laughter in every situation.

Gary is predeceased by his parents and his older brother, Frederick Ernest Cummings, Jr., who he remained very close with throughout his life. Gary is dearly loved and survived by his wife Rungnapa (Rebecca) Cummings; their daughter Alysa Ava Cummings; his daughter Alexandra (Sasha) Cummings; stepson Dmitri Sokgobenzon; sisters Maryann Moison (spouse David); Darlene Green (spouse Bernard); sister-in-law Laurie May; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. All of us that loved Gary will remember him as a unique, humorous man that treasured his family. We will always carry his memory in our hearts.
