George Hosier Massey

May 12, 1930 ~ May 6, 2025

George H. Massey, age 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 6, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida.

He is survived by his children, Beth Massey, David Massey, and Suzanne Massey Garrett, and his sisters Patricia Lord, Ada Zott Quierolo, and brothers Anthony Quierolo and Angelo Quierolo.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Peggy Massey, devoted parents Sofia Elizabeth (Nannie) Massey nee Waltjen (mother) and Vard Massey (father), brother Bob Massey and sister Anna Mello.

George loved to laugh and tell stories. He had a sharp and curious mind up to the end. Even as his body was failing him, he was still joking with the nurses and talking with his children.

Born in Stockton, California, George left home at 15 to work at a dairy farm and joined the US Air Force at 18. He traveled across the world and found Christ in Japan at age 19. He met his wife, Peggy Abrell, in Biloxi Mississippi at an Air Force social event. They dated for about a year before marrying in 1952.

After serving his country in the Air Force, George went back to college, finished with a degree in Christian Studies and subsequently went to work for Western Baptist Bible College as their registrar. He loved giving back to the college where he met some of his best friends and throughout his life stayed in touch with staff and friends.

George lived in Tuscaloosa Alabama, until 2021 when he moved to and lived in Jacksonville, Florida until his passing in May 2025.

George loved Jesus and loved to study the Bible and to teach.

He had many favorite verses, and his favorite to recite is this prayer of Jabez:1 Chronicles 4:10 Jabez prayed, '…”Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.'

We miss you already George (Dad) and look forward to seeing you in Heaven.

In the near future, an intimate Celebration of Life will be held in Moundville, Alabama.
