Gerald Carl Vonder Meulen

February 18, 1936 ~ October 15, 2024

Gerald “Gerry” Vonder Meulen, 88, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, died on October 15th in Jacksonville, FL.

A resident of Ponte Vedra, Gerry was born and raised in Cincinnati where he met the love of his life and partner for more than 65 years: Margret McGraw Vonder Meulen. After graduating from Xavier University he then pursued his law degree at Chase Law School and serving in the Army, Gerry was a tax attorney whose career took Marge and their family from Ohio to Michigan, Tennessee, Georgia and eventually settled in 1976 in Jacksonville. It was in Jacksonville that he and Marge raised their four children: Steve, Linda, Mark and Karen. In 1985, Marge and Gerry moved back to Atlanta, where Gerry acquired the ReMax of Atlanta Insurance franchise, which he ran until he retired in 2016 and returned to Florida.

Gerry is survived by Margret, his children, Linda, Mark and Karen; his grandchildren Ashley and Jessica Vonder Meulen and Spence and Harper Campbell; and his great, grandson, Kai Vonder Meulen.

Next to his family, Gerry’s great love was golf. While his children were growing up, Gerry put his love for the game aside but kept score as to how many rounds he was owed over his lifetime. In his later years, he did his best to catch-up on those games claiming SMGA Championship at the Indian Hills Country Club in Marietta, GA in 2005.

  1. Gerry and I were in the same class in grade school and got back together at Xavier University in Cincinnati. We played quite a few rounds together on a local golf course. A little money was involved and he always got most of it.
If I remember correctly his older brother was best man at his wedding and I was also in the wedding party. I think he had just been drafted and had a tough time getting back from his honey moon in time to meed his military obligation. He was a good friend and I'm very sorry that he is gone.

  2. Gerry and I met many years ago. We were in the same class at St. Ann grade school in the Bond Hill neighborhood in Cincinnati. We played a lot of golf together as teenagers; he always wanted to play for nickels and dimes because his short game was much better than mine. We both went to Xavier University in Cincinnati and we were members of the same fraternity for a few years. I would have invited him to be in our wedding party when Marilyn and I married but he had been inducted into the army at that time. We didn't see much of each other after that because I went away to graduate school and only visited Cincinnati once in a while after that. I remember Gerry as a sensible, hard-working person who had well-defined goals, most of which he met.
Best wishes to his family, Jack Connolly
