Greg "Gregory" Sullivan

December 29, 2022

Greg (Gregory) H. Sullivan of Ocala, went Home peaceably to be with the Lord on December 29, 2022, surrounded by family.

Greg was born on March 12th, 1958 in Des Moines, Iowa. His family moved to Sarasota, FL when he was ten. He attended Sarasota High School where he played point guard on the basketball team. He copied the flashy passes and moves of “Pistol” Pete Maravich and wore the number 15 of Earl “the Pearl” Monroe. He studied Political Science at West Georgia College. Greg's interests included basketball, playing country music on his guitar, college football and basketball, his dozens of dogs throughout the years, landscaping and new car designs.

It was his passion for downhill skateboarding that became his great recreational joy starting in his 30’s until a few years before his death. He moved to north central Florida in the early 2000’s in order to ride the many natural sand hills. His speeds would often top 40 mph. Greg shared these words with his brother and skate partner Gary on more than one occasion “the faster I go, the closer I feel to God.” He created a portable sail that could propel a skateboard rider faster when opened. He never wished to market this product due to the skill it required to operate it safely.

His work years included the Sheraton Sandcastle, Sarasota; The French Lick Sheraton Resort, Indiana; management positions at the Atlanta Hilton and Towers and Imperial Plants, Alabama; Practice Manager for John E. Sullivan Sr, MD, Sarasota; and Medical Billing and Coding Specialist for Mid Florida Endoscopy and Surgery Center, Ocala. He was also the co-owner of Florida Oceansports and Loyalty Skateboards, St. Petersburg.

Greg loved the Lord, his family and America. He was preceded in death by his parents John E. Sullivan, Sr, MD and Marianne Sullivan, Sarasota, FL. He is survived by sisters Betsy Smith (Pat), FL; Julie Sullivan, TX; and Ella Johnson (John), OH; and brothers John (Jack) Sullivan, Jr. MD, (Sue), Sarasota; Chris Sullivan, Sarasota; and twin brother Gary Sullivan, Ocala; and nieces Luci and Emilia Sullivan, Katie (Johnson) Berne, and nephews Matthew Smith, Timmy Guidry, Andrew Sullivan, David, MD, Daniel and John Johnson III, and numerous cousins, and the love of his life for over 40 years Natalie Sullivan.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of Marion County (FL) Fire Rescue, West Marion Hospital/ Ocala; and Cates House /Hospice of Marion County, for their exceptional compassion and care for Greg.

Greg would want to “pass on the stoke of outdoor sports” and encourage “everyone to go outside and be active every day possible.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to your local SPCA or that you might purchase a skateboard, safety pads and a helmet for a child.
