Gwen Carol Stressman

Gwen Carol Stressman, 81, of Gainesville, FL passed away peacefully at UF Shands Hospital on Saturday, January 25, 2025 with her oldest daughter and youngest granddaughter by her side. Gwen was born February 25,1943 in Bridgeport, CT to Roger and Marie (Clarkson) Stressman.
In 1979, Gwen graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor’s degree in social work and worked for Hillsborough County School District. Gwen moved to Gainesville, FL in 2013 to help care for her two youngest granddaughters. Gwen was an active member of Newberry United Methodist Church and Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O).
Gwen is survived by her daughter, Susan Machinski (Tom); son, Scott Mahoney (Debbie); daughter, Heather Mahoney; granddaughters, Emily Mahoney, Ava and Macy Gleason; great-grandson, Ilyas; brother, Roger Stressman; and nephews, Todd and Scott Clarkson, Roger and John Stressman.

Hi, Gwen is my cousin, or maybe half cousin since her mom, my aunt Marie Stressman was my father’s half sister. I had not visited Gwen since 1985 when I was traveling on business throughout Florida. Her daughter Susan and I went to Disney’s Epcot Center and had a fun day. I always enjoyed Gwen’s company and she was one of my favorite cousins, although that side of my extended family was not very close. RIP Gwen, you’ll be missed. I happened to be going through some of my father’s documents and estate stuff and decided to search online for Gwen. Through this I learned that she had passed in January, one month prior to her 82nd birthday. RIP Gwen, you’ll be missed. Love, Scott
