Hudson Joseph Jordan passed away peacefully on September 13th. 2024, at his
home in Gainesville , Fl with his wife and children by his side.
Born on 15th March 1931 in Georgetown, Guyana. Hudson led a distinguished life
marked by his quiet demeanor and a profound love for the simpler pleasures in life.
His career as a shrimp boat captain took him across the oceans and beyond. He
survived sinking ships by treading in shark filled waters for several hours. As a
navigator, he steered ships to the ports of Georgetown, St Vincent, Florida, Texas and
many other places. a role he embraced with passion and dedication. His leadership at
sea translated seamlessly into his personal life where he was the steadfast captain of
his family.
Away from the helm, Hudson was deeply engaged in his hobbies. His garden was a
testament to his patience and care, flourishing under his attentive eye. An avid reader of
newspapers, he also enjoyed the challenge of solving crosswords and sudoku puzzles,
activities that kept his mind as sharp as his eyes were on the sea. He was a great cook
who placed well in a few chili cookoff contests and always made sure his neighbor got
fed. His home was a sanctuary for aquatic life and birds. He always had a well
maintained aquarium and that showcased his lovebirds.
Hudson is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Merlene Jordan and their four children
Tony, Alison, Mark and Trevor. He was a cherished grandfather to Cassandra and
Charlene Canty, and a proud great grandfather to Christopher and Antony Canty,
Nevaeh Day, Jasmine, Dakota and Kenneth. His loving nieces Ingrid Smyma and
Tracey Nurse. His loyal dog, Miss HoneyBee, also survived him.
He will be missed by his friends and extended family around the world especially in
Guyana, St Vincent and New York.
His friend Mary Colman looked to him as her adopted father. Robert O'Rourke saw him
as a mentor during tough times, and Brenda Chinama cherished him as a neighbor.
Hudson’s life was a beautiful, serene journey that reflected the calmness of the sea he
loved. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his leadership, and profound
commitment to his family and passions. His legacy will continue to inspire those who
knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
