James Andrew Taylor

James (Jim) Andrew Taylor, 68, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away on April 12, 2017, at the VA Community Living Center in Gainesville, Florida.

 

 

Jim was born in Fort Benning, Georgia on September 7, 1948. He graduated from High School in  Baumholder, Germany and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of West Florida.  He was married to Beverly Ann on February 18, 1983, and they were married 34 years.

Jim served in the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam.  Following that, he worked as a civil servant in Finance at the VA for 33 years. In retirement, he enjoyed sewing, traveling, following the news, jewelry making, and spending time with friends, family, and the family dogs.  He is famous for his handmade collection of Hawaiian print shirts.  Jim was a steadfast believer in making the most of the time we are given, and everyone doing their part.   

Jim is survived by his wife Beverly; daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Eric; granddaughter Olivia; siblings Martin, Wilson, Nicey, Joseph, Raymond, Thomas, and Elizabeth; as well as other family and friends.  Honorary brothers include Tom Sutton and T.W. Stephens.  

He is preceded in death by his parents Rose Marie and Charles Andrew Taylor.

A memorial donations may be given to Haile’s Angels Pet Rescue or the James A. Taylor Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will be distributed annually to a government employee who is seeking a higher level of education in the Nursing field. The family wishes to thank all who love Jim, and especially those who have been supportive during this period of his life.

  1. For the ten years I’ve know Jim and Beverly, we’ve spent many an hour planning voyages and vacations, but we never left our chairs. Jim has inspired me to find and meeet my challenges head-on, and at all costs create safety and security for family. You’re a good man, Jim Taylor; my life is better for knowing you.

  2. My heart goes out to his family. Jim was a wonderful person who was always eager to help the veterans and always willing to listen especially the nurses. He will be missed by all of his VA family.

Nicey is beloved by many and has loving share Jim’s story with us. Praying his celebration of Life will be a healing time for all.
