James (“Jimmy”) Peter Homann, 71, of Palatka, FL passed away peacefully at Haven Roberts Hospice Care Center on August 6, 2023. He was surrounded in love in his final days and minutes by his three children.
Jimmy was born in New Brunswick, NJ to Elinor Hansen Homann and Jack Henry Homann on March 6, 1952, living in Edison for much of his childhood.
Growing up in Edison, he was dubbed one of the original “Tingley boys” along with a group of neighborhood boys who lived on Tingley Lane. Jim was an adventurous, free spirit that couldn’t be kept down. He lived his life his way. He often said life should be about the adventure, not the destination. He travelled and lived all over the country. If you went any length of time without being in touch with him, you could be certain he had moved to a new city or state and was working in a new trade, thus creating a life of adventure for his family. Although a life-long trucker, Jimmy was known to be a “jack of all trades,” from working deep in the forests of Montana as a logger to going out to sea as a shrimp fisherman in California. He enjoyed riding his Harley as a real biker at heart. He loved the biker culture and its brotherhood. He was a strong, tough as nails, yet tender hearted man who loved his family and would give you the shirt off his back.
He is predeceased by his father, mother, youngest sister, “Chrissy" Homann, youngest son, Michael Homann; his beloved second wife, Mary Smith Homann and mother in law Nancy Thompson. He is survived by his ex-wife of a dedicated 38 years and mother to his children, Sharon Egri Homann; his loving children James Peter Homann, Jr., Angela Elizabeth Bretz, and Nicole Homann Gobel along with his cherished daughter-in-law Amber Homann and son-in-laws Chris Gobel and Brad Bretz; his step daughter Courtney Donnelly; his six grandchildren Kody Homann, 28, Jordan Homann, 23, Alyssa Gobel, 22, Justin Bretz, 22, Adam Bretz, 16 Ethan Bretz, 13 and a great grandson on the way; his siblings Jay "Poochie" Homann, Jackie Homann, and Susie Homann Miele. He also leaves behind special friends from childhood and friends he made all over the country.
Jim was a simple, humble man who insisted no fuss be made upon his passing. His children are carrying out his wishes to be cremated with no memorial service and his ashes be spread over a body of water; a true honor to the free spirit he was.
