Janet Ann Hardin

January 24, 2024

Janet Ann Hardin bravely fought Multiple Myeloma until her passing on Jan 24, 2024. Born on August 17, 1955, in Tipton, Indiana, to Oral "Ray" and Ruby Smith, she grew up with siblings Karen, Joe, and Ed. Janet earned a nursing degree and later served as the Secretary for the University of Florida International Center. She cherished this role, often saying, "The world came to her desk every day." Janet enjoyed tending to plants, painting, reading, and solving puzzles. Her cat Gingy and the simple joy of rocking in her chair brought her comfort. She had a keen eye for transforming items into something wonderful. Janet found peace in both distant travels and quiet moments by the beach. Preceded in death by parents Ruby and Ray, brother Joe, and sister Karen, she is survived by daughters Emilee and Ashlee of Gainesville, FL, sister Pat (Joe) of North Salem, IN, nieces Anita and Gina, nephew Dustin, and brother Ed (Anita) of Okeechobee, FL. Janet's deep love for Jesus, her positive outlook on people, and her ability to see the best in them were constants in her life.

The memorial service for Janet is scheduled for February 24, 2024, at 11:00 AM, please contact the family for details.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice www.beyourhaven.org.

  1. I am so very sorry for the loss of your precious Mom. She was a wonderful woman and I’m so thankful I was given the pleasure of meeting all of you. I will continue to pray for you both. Sending hugs and many prayers.

  2. Emilee and Ashlee my heart goes out to the both of you. May God continue to provide comfort and strength to you both. I'm glad I was able to meet her and see the beautiful person she was. Know that she is in the presence of our Almighty God.

  3. Hi Emilee and Ashlee – It was very sad to see your post on Facebook today. You mom was a wonderful woman. I met her in the summer of 2016 when she needed to find a home in Gainesville. She loved her job at UF and worked so very hard helping other people every single day. We stayed in touch, but it was great seeing you all last year. I know your heart is hurting. I always convince myself that when a loved one passes away, they will become your guardian angel. It has helped me deal with my losses too. You are in my prayers, and I know she is in heaven now. I wish you both the very best!

  4. Jan was a wonderful and sensitive woman. I had the privilege of being a prayer partner with her for about a year as she ministered in the Freedom in Christ ministry at Parkway Baptist so many years ago. Her sensitivity to the Lord blessed many women as He brought healing to their lives. Our condolences the family and friends as they mourn her loss but we also rejoice knowing she is in the presence of Jesus now, whole and healthy. You will be missed, dear Jan, but we will see you soon.

  5. Such a special lady especially since we shared first names . It was such a privilege to have gone to church with her and the family. May God strengthen the family thru this time

  6. Janet and I were friends in high school. I stayed at her home several different times and enjoyed she and her family so much. The nicest people you would ever want to meet. Janet was so sweet and kind in high school. I haven't seen her since then, but it certainly sounds like she hadn't changed. Prayers go out to her daughters.
