Janet Beth (Underwood) Murphy, born 7 October 1941. Janet Murphy, beloved mother, wife and daughter, died peacefully in her retirement home in Fleming Island, Florida on October 26, 2025 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was predeceased by her husband Sherman Murphy of Connecticut; parents Clyde and Freda Underwood of Nebraska; and her sister Nancy Pfafflin of Arizona. She is survived by her sons Douglas Murphy (Jayne) of Capitola, California and Christopher Murphy (Leanne) of Fleming Island, Florida; her sister Diane Anderson of Kansas; brother Max Underwood of Montana; grandchildren Conner (Megan), Evan, Makenna, Ethan, Evelyn, and Chloe; and many nieces and nephews.

Janet was a long-time resident of Rocky Hill and Windsor, Connecticut, and worked as a math teacher at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, as a tax preparer for H&R Block, and as a benefits program accountant for Aetna Insurance. An enthusiastic and generous patron of the arts, Janet enjoyed travel, visiting museums, and attending theater, dance and symphony performances.
