John Henry Manherz

December 16, 1945 ~ November 18, 2023

John Henry Manherz III passed away on Saturday, November 18th, 2023, at the age of 77, at Baptist South Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, surrounded by his family.

John, who was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania, was the only son of John Henry Jr. and Edna Rae Manherz. He was raised on a farm in Harrisburg, PA, with his parents and two sisters, Doris and Irene. John graduated from Central Dauphin High School in 1963. After graduation, he joined the US Air Force and received the “Airman of the Month” award during his time serving in the military.

In 1964, John met the love of his life, Deborah (Debi) Marie Leisher, on a beautiful summer day while out cruising in his convertible. They married on July 13th, 1966, in Hagerstown, MD and he remained lovingly devoted and married to Debi for the rest of his life.

After his honorable discharge from the US Air Force, John was recruited to work for IBM, where he received highest honors during his training with the company. John continued his successful career in computer management for several years, closing out his career in the gaming technology industry before he retired.

In John’s younger years, he enjoyed hunting, repairing cars and attending car shows. In his retirement years, John enjoyed biking and discovered a passion and purpose in repairing older bikes, which he gave to homeless shelters and foster children.

John and Debi share 2 children, Michelle Yvonne and John Kenneth, along with 9 grandchildren – Samantha Rae, Devin Kenneth, John Bryan, Mackdaline Joseph, Andrew Bolton, Michael Henry, Stephanie, Hailey Lora and twins Ben and Emma. John was deeply loved and adored by all of his grandchildren, who affectionately called him, “Pappy”.  John was a grandfather who loved to play with all of them, constantly telling jokes to keep everyone laughing and giggling.

John was happiest when he was with his family. He will always be remembered as the very best husband, dad, father-in-law, and grandfather. We will forever cherish and hold close to our hearts the amazing memories that John Manherz left on all of our hearts.

  1. Dear John, your pain is gone and for that I am grateful. I'm sure Jesus welcomed you with open arms into heaven. Your children have been taking such good care of Debi and for that I am also grateful! Until we meet again in heaven, if our Lord permits me to enter those gates, always remember that I always did, and always will love you and your family. Rest my good friend. Your days of toil are over.
