Joseph Francis Cunnane III, 76, of Gainesville, FL, passed away peacefully on January 14th, 2025. Joe was born in Norristown, PA, to Joseph Francis Cunnane Jr. and Doris Rita Cunnane (Millhouse) on November 9th, 1948. He went to school at Upper Merion High School and served in the ROTC and the Army Reserves.

 

Joe’s career was in the restaurant business. He started out as a dishwasher at a Rustler Steak House and finished his career as the COO of DavCo, a Wendy’s franchise in the Baltimore/DC area. In between those jobs he managed restaurants for Wolfgang Puck and Gino Marchetti.

 

When he wasn’t working, Joe was enjoying time on the golf course, and cooking for his family and friends. He also loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

 

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Doris Rita Cunnane (Millhouse) and Joseph Francis Cunnane Jr., and his youngest son, Joseph Francis Cunnane IV (Joey).

 

Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Cunnane; daughters Kimberly Oros, Betsy Johnson (Alonzo), Courtney Melanson (Brent) and Shannon McSkimming (Andrew); sons Timothy Cunnane (Beth) and Shawn Cunnane (Sara); stepdaughters Courtney Feagle (Scott), Emily King (Brett), and Rebecca King; seventeen grandchildren, one great grandson, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Joe is also survived by his 3 brothers, Albert “Bud” Cunnane, Michael Cunnane (Susan) and John Cunnane (Carolyn); and his sister Debbie Garo (Lucien).

  1. There will be a Celebration of Life service from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 15th, 2025, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, located at 7118 W. University Ave., Gainesville, FL. There will be another Celebration of Life service on Saturday, April 12th, 2025, in Philadelphia, PA. As plans are finalized, specific details will be shared with family and friends.

  2. I did not have the pleasure of Meeting Joseph but I am proud to call his son Shawn my friend. If the measure of a man is the character of his children, Joseph must have been among the finest.
