Kimberly K Klinger

October 2, 2023

Kimberly Kristeen Klinger of Gainesville, Florida peacefully passed away at Haven Hospice on Monday, October 2, 2023 at the age of 48 following a valiant battle with cancer. The daughter of Kenneth and Frances Klinger, Kimberly was born on October 14, 1974 in Youngstown, OH and then moved with her family to Alachua, FL at a young age. A graduate of Santa Fe High School where she was salutatorian of the Class of 1993, Kimberly went on to earn multiple degrees from the University of Florida, including a BS in Accounting and an MS in Family, Youth, and Community Science. During her time at UF, Kimberly was an active member of University United Methodist Church where she served on the Upper Room staff and sang in the Marantha Choir. True to her Orange and Blue roots, Kimberly worked as an Accounting Coordinator at UF/IFAS Extension Family Nutrition Program for almost 25 years where she was a beloved colleague and friend.

A devoted mother, Kimberly is survived by her two young children, Zachary Alexander McNabb, aged 12, and Katherine Grace McNabb, aged 7. Kimberly loved nothing more than to spend time with her children—baking cookies, playing games, going to amusement parks, and volunteering. Kimberly enjoyed going to the theater to watch plays and musicals and going out to eat with friends and family.

In addition to her children, Kimberly is survived by her parents Kenneth and Frances Klinger of Gainesville, FL; her sister Kelly (Lindsey) Klinger-Roberts of Jacksonville, FL; her nephew Samuel Roberts; her separated spouse David Wayne McNabb of Gainesville, FL; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Services will be held at Alachua Methodist Church, where Kimberly’s parents have been members for over 40 years and where Kimberly and her sister spent their childhood passing notes and suppressing church giggles during the sermon. The service will be brief and child-friendly as Kimberly’s young children will be in attendance. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall with light refreshments. In lieu of flowers, a donation made be made in Kimberly’s name to the Humane Society of North Central Florida where she volunteered every Sunday with her daughter Katherine. The family is also accepting gift cards to assist with the care of Kimberly’s children.

Please contact the Alachua Methodist Church or Family for date and time of services.

  9. I am so sorry to learn of Kimberly's passing. She was a wonderful colleague at UF for many years. She also took my public policy class years ago in grad school. We shared many talks during our time together up until my retirement. Her love of family was foremost in all of her conversations. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and that Kim's warm and friendly presence will be missed. She was a true Gator and served the University and the State of Florida well. Thank you for sharing her with us.
