Larry Michael Sloan

August 10, 2021

Larry Michael Sloan Jr. (Mike), age 50, passed away on August 10, 2021 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born, February 23, 1971 in Jacksonville, FL, the son of Larry Michael Sloan Sr. and Cathy (Caballero) Sloan.

Mike graduated from University Christian in 1989 then later began working at Publix where he met his wife, Tracy (Sigmon). In June of 1997, Mike and Tracy married and they welcomed their first daughter Megan Noel (23) in December. Three years later came his little boy Mitchael Trae (20). Throughout the years Mike and Tracy fostered niece, Jasmon (16) and nephew, Jason (20). Jason later became one of his own children. After starting his career with Publix as a manager he was able to easily transition into management with AT&T. Mike has been working for the company for over 10 years as a Network Manager. Mike enjoyed the relationship he was able to make with his team.

Mike loved to spend his family vacations between Disney World and The Smokey Mountains. Between Animal Kingdom and Cade’s Cove he could point out any animal – if he couldn’t we went around again. These spots were perfect because Mike loved animals and was truly a big kid at heart. Aside from family vacation Mike enjoyed spending his time at Triple S hunting camp with his best friends, Danny Sapp and Scott Sutherland. Their cabin in Fitzgerald, GA. was truly Mikes favorite home away from home. Mikes true passion was hunting, which he worked into every conversation. Besides hunting Mike enjoyed cooking for his friends and family. On Sunday mornings (except for hunting season), the family woke up to Mike cooking and singing in the kitchen. Dinner time for Mike meant Smoking meats, playing games with the family, and cracking jokes.

Mike is predeceased by Haywood Sloan, Lois Jacobs, and Vicente Caballero. Mike is survived by his spouse, Tracy Sloan, his grandmother Sadie Caballero, his parents Mike and Cathy Sloan. Mike is also survived by his loving children, Megan, Mitchael, and Jason.

Mike’s infectious laugh and bigger than life personality made it so he never met a stranger. His story telling and quick wit will be greatly missed.

  1. I'm sorry for your loss. I always had fond memories of Mike. I miss the cookouts at College Dr with his terrible gas grill and the venison he brought. He was far too young and had too much life in him. I wish his family the best.

  2. I am still shocked at the sudden passing and loss of Mike. Having Mike as a manager truly made the job a better place. Mike displayed a genuine care for those around him, and strived consistently to make sure he supported all those who reported to him. In the time I knew him, it became apparently that he was heavily invested in all aspects of his life, and lived a life he loved. Among the deer population he was both feared and revered, and I will take one next season in his honor and memory. I will miss you Mike, and I pray for your family during this difficult time.

  3. I worked with Mike the last few years before I retired. Mike was a great man to work with who was a great asset to our group.I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. I know how important his family was to him so I know he leaves a big hole in everyone’s heart. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

  4. Mike use to be at one point my manager here at AT&T. All around great man and friend. We use to crack jokes all the time. We got each other’s humor. He talked about hunting majority of the time. I’m not much into hunting but enjoyed listening to his stories. He always asked how my family or whoever he was talking to and knew, always asked about others families. He was that type of guy. He also mentioned the love he shared for his family as well. It’s unbelievable that he is gone. My prayers go out to his family and all affected by this great man passing. Miss you already buddy.

  5. We are so very, very sorry for the loss of your precious Michael. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to all of you during this most difficult time. May God hold each of you close as you grieve your great loss. 💔🙏🏻💔

  6. I have known Mike for 10 years with At&t and known of him before in his years working with Publix…he interviewed me before I was hired with At&t and I credit him for giving HR the go-ahead to hire me.  This job has changed my life and I have Mike for starting that path for me.  He was not only my boss but my mentor, someone I could trust, who always had our backs as technicians.  I will especially miss our morning meetings with his “no bs, get right to the point” talks and his amazing outlooks on how the week and weekends needed to go.  He always had a laugh to give and a hand to help with.  Rest In Peace boss, you will be missed.

  7. Not often do we come across someone who has found their true passion. Mike couldn't go more than 2 minutes without talking about hunting. It didn't matter what was going on, his face lit up when it came to hunting. In return, mine did too. He was a great guy to work and I was always happy to have him visit me in the field. He will be missed!

  8. I've had the privilege of knowing several generations of the Sloan family and wanted to express my sincere condolences for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

  9. My condolences to Mike’s  wife, children, parents and extended family. Mike and I worked together at Dunkin’ Donuts a long time ago and would be considered work husband and wife by today’s standards.

  10. I knew Mike from Publix and we dated. I am so sad to hear of hus passing.God bless his wife and children.
