Laura Nelson, a longtime resident of Ocala, passed away on May 16th in Gainesville.
She was a graduate of Penn State and the University of Virginia School of Law. She had a varied and illustrious career but was happiest in the country, close to nature.
She was a passionate and lifelong horsewoman, a gentle protector of all animals, an attorney, a devoted daughter, and a lover of literature, poetry and ideas.

How clear, how lovely bright,
How beautiful to sight
Those beams of morning play;
How heaven laughs out with glee
Where, like a bird set free,
Up from the eastern sea
Soars the delightful day.
To-day I shall be strong,
No more shall yield to wrong,
Shall squander life no more;
Days lost, I know not how,
I shall retrieve them now;
Now I shall keep the vow
I never kept before.
Ensanguining the skies
How heavily it dies
Into the west away;
Past touch and sight and sound
Not further to be found,
How hopeless under ground
Falls the remorseful day.
- A.E. Housman

Lovely….. sending love to you…….
Good friend and loving animal advocate.
You are deeply loved by many people. You are missed.
Miss you Laura. Grateful for our friendship. You made the world a better place for all animals!
I will remember with pleasure the many joyous battles we fought for the values we shared. And we both loved the poetry of A.E. Housman. Pity that you suffered for the colour of your hair.
