Leslie Hood

November 5, 2023

Leslie Gayle Hood, 59, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away in Jacksonville, Florida in the company of her husband Edward Hood, after she bravely battling cancer. She was born on February 29, 1964, to Clarence Cox and Crystal (Curtis) Doddo in Plainview, Texas.

Leslie is survived by her sons Alexander and William Toon, mother/best friend Crystal (Curtis) Doddo, Casey Leavitt, brother-in-law Brian, nephew Jacob, nieces Patricia, Kaylee and Ashlee; her brother James Teissedre; lifelong friends Mary Lynn Realff, Terry Long Medley, and Dana Hegedus Shields; and close Navy Family members Joanne Cassidy-Rivero and Alicia Joyce Armer.

After graduating from Jackson High School, she faithfully served in the Navy for 20 years. Through her career, she participated in numerous deployments primarily concentrating around the Atlantic Ocean. While she accomplished many things during her career, her most treasured accomplishment was being designated as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist. However, participating in numerous running events is a close second. Her completion of the challenging Beach to Beacon course culminated her running adventures. She continued to be an avid walker.

After Alexander started elementary school, Leslie attended Heritage Institute for Cosmetology but afterwards in massage therapy. She obtained her degree in both, graduating with honors in Massage Therapy. During her time at Heritage, she inspired other students in their studies. After graduating, she worked at Jacksonville Sport & Spine.

However, her true passion was in the arts, in all forms. As a creative spirit, she was known to make personalized cards, draw and paint various items, or crochet/knit. She also enjoyed reading and listening to music from all genres. Additionally, she loved visiting Cummer Museum of Art & Garden and of course Disney World/Disneyland (her favorite Disney character was Eeyore).

Leslie’s family is eternally grateful for the care she received at Cancer Specialist of North Florda at St. Vincent’s Clay, Middleburg, Florida. Also, sincere thanks to Community Hospice Center for Caring at Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside, with special acknowledgment to Kat. Leslie was blessed during this difficult time with assistance from her sons, Will and Alex. While she was reserved about her condition, Leslie was extremely fortunate to have special friends who supported her during her illness. She will be remembered for her creativity, optimism, and compassion. Leslie will be dearly missed by many friends and family.

Crevasse's Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Hood family.

  3. I send my dearest condolences to Leslie’s family and closest friends. I knew her from cosmetology school. She was my voice of reason and showed me true compassion for others. She always had a smile on her face and found the positive in all she did. I will miss her and the pep talks and her sharing stories of her family she so deeply loved.
