Manuel G. Sanchez December 4, 1934 - February 11, 2022
Manuel G. Sanchez, "MG", "Sanch", 87 of Gainesville, Florida, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 at his Gainesville home.
M. G. Sanchez spent his entire career in the banking industry. Until a year before his death, he served as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board and Director for Florida Capital Bank, N.A.
He served as Chairman of the Board of Florida Banks from February 1998 until its acquisition. Prior to his service with Florida Banks, Mr. Sanchez worked independently as a bank management consultant.
From 1986 to 1997, Mr. Sanchez served as President and Chief Executive Officer of The FBF Management Group, a provider of management consulting services to banks in Florida. From 1979 until 1986, Mr. Sanchez served as President and Chief Executive Officer of First Bankers Corporation of Florida until its acquisition by First Union Corporation, now Wells Fargo. Mr. Sanchez was the past President of the Florida Association of Registered Bank Holding Companies and the past National President of the Robert Morris Associates.
Mr. Sanchez attended Boston College and the Graduate School of Banking at LSU, but his heart was with the University of Florida. He was an Honorary Alumnus of UF. He was a Bull Gator from 1983. He was the former National President of Gator Boosters from 1995-96. He served as a member of the Advisory Council at the Warrington College of Business. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the University of Florida Athletic Association.
Mr. Sanchez was a member of the board of trustees for the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation in Pensacola, where he also served as Chairman of the Finance Committee.
Mr. Sanchez served the in the United States Marine Corps from 1954-1964.
Mr. Sanchez was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Sanchez and his mother, Mercedes Antiga Sanchez.
He is mourned by his many families: his immediate, wife Bonnie, daughters, Dolores, Deanna, and Debbie. His Marine Corps family, his banking families, and his Gator family.
A very special thank you goes to Mr. Sanchez’s caregivers, Nana Kweh, Patience Njofang, Ozella Simmons and Jennifer Morden. They all spent their time sharing stories and listening to his. Their loving attitude, gentle nature, friendship, humor, and respect was felt by the entire family and greatly appreciated.
As you read this partial list of his many accomplishments, be aware that Sanch was so much more than that. He touched so many lives with his quick wit, incredible intellect and his ability to see everyone as an equal. He was a leader who encouraged his employees to achieve their own greatness and have fun doing it. Those who knew him, knew there were no dumb questions. He would seek answers if he didn't have them at his fingertips.
The world has lost an incredible man, husband, father, and friend.
There will be a Celebration of Life in the fall. Don't worry, it will be an open UF football weekend.
Crevasse's is honored to serve the Sanchez family.

My heart is filled with sadness at your passing, but also with gratitude for having been your friend for so many years. I will cherish the memories of fun times, holidays, vacations and family gatherings. I have learned so much from you about life, love, happiness and friendship. God blessed you in so many ways, and you always shared those blessings with family and friends. Be at peace now and know that we will all reunite in Heaven one day. Miss you every day. You are always in my thoughts and prayers. I will watch over Bonnie and your girls and be there for them whenever there is a need. Love you my friend.
Sanch was such a wonderful person. We knew and loved him as a special brother-in-law. He will be greatly missed by all who came in touch with him. Great mind with a great sense of pride in U.S. Just a great man all around.

Incredible man and equally incredible storyteller. It was clear Sanch loved his Family, Life, his circle & the Gators. His business calls always ended up providing me with a well-needed pause that ended in a smile. He never failed to make me feel important. His gruff, Marine style voice was a fun mismatch to the kind-spirited nature he would always convey. I am honored to have had the minutes with him. Sincere Hugs & Prayers to Bonnie & Family for their loss.
It was a true pleasure knowing Sanch. Will surely miss the friendship and all the stories. He will be missed by so many, but not forgotten.
Sanch is sorely missed. He was a good man with a big heart and a big brain. It was always a comfort knowing we could go ask Sanch and get his input. He loved celebrating life, Gators, good food and friends.
Bob and I feel fortunate to have known him and so blessed that he treated us like family. Much love to Bonnie and the girls. For now he has just gone ahead to make the way for us, we’ll be together again someday.
My favorite story about Sanch is when I took over the outside legal representation of First Bankers Corporation of Florida “back in the day.” Sanch essentially told me that he was a good executive because he made more good business decisions than bad ones. He needed me for legal advice, not business advice. He also said that, as I became experienced, I would see business considerations that would bear on his decision-making. He would welcome my pointing out those business considerations, but only so long as I labeled them “business considerations.” Sanch was my business guru and I his pupil. What a gift he gave me!! He is at peace now after a job well done in life.
To know
MG Sanchez was a blessing beyond belief.
He will forever be remembered as being the sharpest knife in the dawer and a Gator and a Marine and friend. He was loved and cared for till beyond the end by his wife Bonnie. Condolences to his wife and 3 daughters who loved him so.
He will have A-blast in HEAVEN with Ed Mangan who always had the greatest respect for him in business.
Thank you Sanch for your generosity and your kindness always and forever.. and your spicy bloody Mary's!!!
Congratulations on a life well lived.
Love Maureen & Dick Osgood
As a young lawyer representing him as the CEO of First Bankers I learned a lot about how to conduct myself in business and life. Sanch was a lifelong friend, mentor and most importantly is the reason I met my wife Julie and all of the good things that came from that introduction.
Charlie and I miss Sanch sooo much. We had become great friends and share many memories with Bonnie, Sanch and his many friends. He will be greatly missed.

What an honor to have known Sanch. His wonderful stories he shared and his joy for life and his friends. We do miss him very much and feel very blessed that he considered us his friend. Rest in peace, Sanch
Sanch was one of a kind. Always remember those Gator pants and his “Gay Gotors” learned from his daughter!
I was a caregiver for Mr Sanchez this past year. Although his health was waning, his sense of humor was not! He shared amazing stories about his extraordinary life. I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to assist such an intelligent, feisty and caring man. My heart goes out to Mrs.Sanchez and Bella
My uncle's son, he grew up in the US. On a trip to Havana in 1946, before returning to Florida, we first met while our mothers were visiting, and then lost track of each other. Over sixty years later we would meet again in Ft. Lauderdale and renew our family ties as if time had stood by. Ever since we would make it a point to meet frequently at Gator games and family reunions. I shall miss him greatly.
Thank you, Bonnie, for taking such good care of him in his last days.
I am so sad to lose my friend. We went to St. Mary's High School together in Miami. So many great memories. We lost track of each other for probably 40 years. We reconnected through friends. He was the same Sanch, so much fun and loved to tell stories. He and Bonnie invited 6 couples to stay at their house for a weekend and see a Gator game. Such generosity. Hugs and Prayers to Bonnie and Family.
Bonnie,
It has been a pleasure for me to have known Sanch these past twenty years. What a wonderful gentle “man”. He taught me so much about banking and enlightened me with many stories and life lessons. He was a walking encyclopedia and friend to all……..God only made one Sanch! Please know that he will always hold a special place with me. I know you miss him immensely and I pray that God will wrap His arms around you and cover you in His peace.
Bonnie,
We send our deepest condolences to you and the ladies. You both have been great to me and my family over the brief moment that I was stationed in Florida. We always felt welcome and will try to visit soon.
Best Sanch story I have;
Every year Sanch would tell me, SSgt or Gy, I have these tickets, I just want Marines and the students to enjoy the game and the ceremony. Let me know what you need. See you after the game starts….Go Gators.
Sanch was the nicest, generous and sweetest man that I have ever had the privilege of knowing. He had the biggest heart and I will miss him dearly. Go rest high on that mountain Sanch!
Our most sincere condolences to Sanch's family. We had the privilege to know Sanch and share many moments of joy and happiness. We will always remember you as a very wise, strong and intelligent man. We share our faith trusting in GOD'S plan and I truly believe you are in heaven. Rest in peace Sanch.
We will always love you.
Sir Sanch was an officer and a Gentleman of the highest order. It was my privilege and honor to work with him. May God Bless and rest his gentle soul. Semper Fi my brother.
Dearest Bonnie,
I had no idea, I am so sorry to just be seeing this. Sending many prayers to you for peace and comfort. Please let me know if I can do anything for you.
All my love,
Pam
Dear Mrs. Sanchez,
I just read of the passing of your beloved husband, M G, which I am so dearly saddened for. I hadn’t seen or spoken to Sanch since 1976. In 1973, I joined the First National Bank of Pompano Beach, as a Trust Officer. One of the first people I met was your husband, Sanch. Even though we never got together socially, his outward personality made it seem as though I had known him for many years. He was very instrumental in Bud Hobbs’ decision to send me to Vero Beach in 1976 to take over the Trust Department at the First Citrus Bank. I will always remember the fun and commoraderie we had playing basketball together with the gang from the commercial banking department. Sanch was a fine example for me and many others, not only as “The Banker”, but also as a kind gentleman and fine human being. I know that you and your family will always treasure your husband’s memories, and will pray that you will all be together again in the earthly paradise that our Heavenly Father and God, Jehovah, has promised to those who love him. With my deepest sympathy and heartfelt regards,
Fred Tuerpe’
