Maria Alicia Silva Velazquez, an inspiration of strength, love, and generosity, passed away on November 18, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on July 19, 1931, in Vieques, Puerto Rico, Maria was known for her warmth and the unwavering devotion she showed to God and her family. A loving daughter, mother, grandmother, and sister, she was a guiding force who supported her loved ones through both joy and difficulties, and her nurturing spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Maria’s passion for gardening reflected her caring nature. She found joy in cultivating flowers around her home, creating a peaceful sanctuary where she could tend to beauty and life. Her garden, like her heart, flourished under her love and gentle care.
As a mother to Wanda, Jorge, and Jose, Maria’s love was boundless. She loved her children deeply, and they, in turn, adored her. Her legacy of love, compassion, and kindness lives on through them, shaping their lives as they continue to honor her memory.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Fortunato Silva and Petra Velazquez, and her siblings: Belia, Jorge, Jose Antonio, Carmelo, and Nolin. She is survived by her grandchildren, Obed, Adrian, and Julian, her son-in-law Obed, as well as her beloved sisters, Cedinia, Elida, and Gloria, her beloved brothers Juan Eladio and Virgilio, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Each of them will forever carry the memory of her love, strength, and joy.
Maria’s memory will continue to inspire those she left behind, encouraging them to live with compassion, strength, and an open heart. Her love will remain a guiding light for generations to come. Until we meet again mami!
