Marjorie Jane Barrett, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a year long battle with the effects of a stroke. She was predeceased by her husband, James Thomas Barrett, her youngest son James Thomas Barrett Jr., granddaughter, An-nie Yankeelov, and great-grandson J. J. Halpert. She leaves five children: San-dra Barrett Pardue (Marybeth), Susan Barrett Tolbert (Thomas), Dean Barrett, Mark Barrett (Jackie), Janet Barrett Suggs ( Eddie). In addition, she leaves nine grandchildren: Tracy, Tommy, Jenny, Micheal, Melissa, Ed, Devin, James, and Erin and nine great-grandchildren plus two on the way: Abi, Kayla, Wyatt, Ayden, Ariana, Eva, Elayna, Elias, and Jackson. Numerous friends and extended family including Janice Griffin will miss her presence.
Marge lived through the Great Depression and World War II before marrying the childhood playmate (Jim or B as she called him) who declared that he would marry her upon their first meeting at a playground swingset. They raised six chil-dren in the Edenic South Florida of the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s with Marge filling the role of homemaker until most of the kids left the nest.
The Barrett’s became early residents of the new City of Sunrise Golf Village and Marge was one of the founders of the city’s library where she volunteered for many years. After Jim’s passing she moved to Melbourne Beach to fulfill a life-long dream of living on the ocean. Once that was satisfied she moved to the lake house in Ocklawaha that she and Jim had dreamed of as their vacation paradise. She volunteered at one of the local elementary schools for several years working with special needs students in her assigned classroom.
Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren spent numerous hours en-joying the adventures, natural experiences, family meals, game nights, and pro-ject scrums at the lake. She was always excited for visitors to arrive, awed to catch the sandhill cranes performing mating dances in her yard, happy to ob-serve tiny hummingbirds feed, or to enjoy the thrill of wildlife like the time she caught a mama bear nursing her cubs next to her fence.
Marge worked as hard as she could her entire life, and even as her health failed, she continued to persevere. She is much loved and is now at peace joining a scrum of those who left before her.
Should you wish to further honor Marge’s memory please spend extra time volun-teering or make a donation to your favorite charity in her name.
Arrangements for Marjorie have been entrusted to the care of Crevasse's Simple Cremation, Gainesville, Florida. Online condolences as well as fond memories may be left for the Barrett family by visiting www.Crevassesimplecremation.com
