Maurice (Maury) Norton Gehrke, 91, of Ocala, Florida passed away January 21, 2024. He was born on November 4, 1932, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, son of Ernest and Sara (Norton) Gehrke.
After completing high school in Oshkosh, Maury enlisted in the Navy where he served as a Seabee in the Western Pacific during the time of the Korean War. He was proud of and often reminisced about the time he spent in the service. After serving in the Navy, Maury attended the University of Wisconsin on the GI Bill, where he obtained both undergraduate and graduate degrees in the education field. While in college, Maury met fellow student Seone (Hadrich) Gehrke, and they married on June 13, 1959, in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Maury worked as an art teacher and librarian for over 30 years at Preble High School in Green Bay. In 1994, Maury and Seone moved to Ocala and loved their retired life and friends in central Florida. Maury was an accomplished artist, avid golfer, hunter, snowmobiler, car enthusiast and loved to tinker on the various projects he had going on in his garage. Above all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Maury is survived by his wife, Seone, daughter Maureen Wilcox (Jeff), grandson Nicholas Wilcox and granddaughter Sarah Wilcox. Maury was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Walter Gehrke.
