Mickey Peterson

December 30, 2023

Mickey (Mick) Peterson passed away on Saturday, December 30th, 2023, at 56 years old. Mick was born in Berlin Germany on May 31st, 1967. His parents Donald, a U.S. Air Force Officer, and Birgitt Peterson moved their family to America in 1969. Mick grew up in Bristol, Illinois, and graduated from Yorkville High School in 1986. Mick was an athlete in school and enjoyed sports, fast cars, motorcycles, girls, and dancing. In 1983, as a member of Bristol Explorer Troop 34, Mick received the “BSA Heroism Medal” for rescuing another scout member from drowning in swift water. After graduating high school Mick attended the University of Illinois Police Training Institute where he graduated as a leader of his class. Mick served as a police officer in the Byron Police Department and also as a Sergeant in the Earlville Police Department. Mick moved to Missouri for several years and started a family. He had three children, two daughters (Miranda and Stephanie) and a son (Cody). While in Missouri Mick perfected his skills as a mechanic working on cars, lawn equipment, and his favorite Harley Davidson Motorcycles. He also worked as an Aircraft Mechanic for a while after moving back to Illinois. A few years ago, Mick decided to leave the area. He bought a huge RV and started his new life traveling the U.S. with his “best friend”, his dog, Diesel. Mick did not have a perfect life, but it was perfect for him. Mick lived a lifestyle not suited for many. He seemed larger than life with his quick wit, hot temper, extreme passion, and love for riding his Harleys and living on the edge. In the late fall of 2019, his travels took him to Florida where he fell in love and married Jane Weber Lewis in 2020. Mick and Jane Peterson traveled for 4 years and eventually took root in a beautiful resort area in Florida. On December 1st, 2023, Mick and Jane were in a horrible motorcycle accident. Jane was injured, treated, and released from the hospital. Mick was in critical condition and flown to the nearest Trauma Center. Mick fought for 29 days but eventually succumbed to his injuries. Mick had friends and family at his side when he passed away. Micks’ wishes were to donate his organs and the family honored his wishes.

Mick is preceded in death by his grandparents, his father Donald (Don) Peterson, and two of his brothers, Rene, and Andy as well his dog Diesel. He is survived by his mother Birgitt Peterson, his two younger brothers Dwayne and Darin, his wife Jane Peterson, daughters Miranda and Stephanie, and his son Cody. He also has three grandchildren Lily, Collin, and Leo. Mick will be missed by his family and friends and everyone who knew Mick for the fun-loving character who lived life his way.

  1. Not my words but they help to understand and comfort in silence.
"Four wheels move the body; two wheels move the soul. Life is short, buy the motorcycle, have a ride, live your dreams. You don't stop riding when you get old; you get old when you stop riding. Motorcycles are my therapy, and my helmet is my psychologist."

  2. Mickey, I'm so shocked and sad of hearing of this. I just seen you at the ace hardware like a year ago or so it seems, working on a sunday. You gave me a hug. I was so happy to see you. So happy to see all your travels with Jane. I was glad to see you so happy. You were always the fun guy In School and always my friend . You will be missed. You were so full of life and I am so
Sorryful for your families loss. So glad you got to enjoy life. My heartfelt prayers to all.

  3. Mick! Thanks for a lifetime of friendship. So many memories run through my head that I can’t even pick a favorite. The last time we talked i was at the Chiefs game and you were so excited for me and my husband to experience that. You talked about how wonderful Jane is, and I am so glad to know you left this world knowing you found that true love too! Til we meet again my friend! RIP

  4. We loved you for you, that’s it plain and simple. My life had so many more laughs because you were in it, even for a short time. Thank you for the joy you always gave to those around you. Never forgotten

  5. Rest in peace buddy.  You lived your life the way you wanted and went out doing something you love. Give em hell on the other side.

  6. Brother. You are 1 of a kind. I will miss our private jokes, your quirky style and our friendship. I love you and can't believe you are not here with us.
    We all miss you.
Ride high on angels wings and rev the motor load so we hear you.

  7. Mick married my beautiful friend Jane and treated her with love and adventure. They shared their passion for life, family, and adventure.
I was finally able to meet Mick in October, here at our Ohio home. His presence could fill a room. I thank him for sharing his life with Jane…. Their adventures were exciting to follow.
I wish the family and loved ones peace during this difficult time.

  8. We had many great memories together growing up from Sports &  Football Camps to Cars & rRailroad Crossings & Gravel Parking Lots. We had no fears back then & you were the leader of the pack of no fear‼️
I will also never forget when you walked by my Dads casket & Saluted him good bye.
We will all miss you my friend 🙏🏻
    Love Ya Brother‼️💯🙏🏻

  9. Always a big smile on your face whenever we ran into each other. As a HS English teacher at YHS, I find it delightful to see former students like you. I pray for peace for your loved ones and rest for your soul. 🙏💙✌️

  10. One memory I always remember — walking towards church for Mark's wedding ran into Mick who detoured Peg and I to a bar to have a drink or two. Always great fun with Mick.

  11. There truly are no words to describe how incredibly grateful I was for your friendship, love and support over the many years we have known each other. There are so many memories that I will forever cherish. If you knew Mickey back in the early years than you should smirk about this. I asked him to pick me up some fries from Mickey D's and he said he would if I would make Kool-Aid. He got to the house and handed me the fries and I handed him a glass of Kool-Aid. We literally both spit our stuff out at the same time. He asked me where the sugar was in the Kool-Aid and I asked him if he dumped the whole salt shaker in the fries. He liked his fries with a lot of salt and his Kool-Aid with a lot of sugar. I love you my friend forever. I will see you someday on the other side.

  12. I met Mick when he was hired on at Stonebridge Country Club in Aurora, IL. He had the energy and passion of an 18 year old, willing to do anything for his friends or family, and a man that if you hung out with, you knew you were going to have a blast. I enjoyed the 4th of July parties in Yorkville. I'd bring my daughter's and he would joke and play with them as much as if they were his own. I hope to meet you Jane, one day. I'd like to meet the one he spoke so highly of when we talked on the phone. I could tell you were the one that made him the happiest of all. I love and miss you Mick. Rest in peace.

  13. I had the pleasure of meeting Mick when he first arrived to South Florida. We were at a popular biker bar, Flossie's .We talked and laughed like we had known each other forever. I always looked forward to hanging out with him. My deepest condolences to all of his family. He will be missed very much by everyone that had the pleasure to meet him.

  14. Mick was a special person. He had the biggest heart and always willingly to help out a friend when needed. He loved his Jane, motorcycle 🏍️, drinks and music. He loved to have a good time. We will miss that shit eating grin down here but Mick you keep riding on the other side.

  15. My condolences to his children.
So sad to lose their dad because he lived life “his way”.
My only prayer is that Micky had time to give his life over to Christ before he died.
